Did Beechwood force Principal Ben Zimmerman out?

Featured Replies

Beechwood issued a "press release" saying he retired:

Beechwood Independent School District

We wish to announce the retirement of Mr. Ben Zimmerman, Beechwood High School Principal, effective as of July 7, 2014. Mr. Zimmerman has served Beechwood High School as the High School Principal, Assistant Principal, Director of Pupil Personnel, and Athletic Director. Mr. Zimmerman’s service to faculty, staff, students and parents since 2006 is very much appreciated. Beechwood wishes Mr. Zimmerman much happiness in his retirement, and wishes him the best in his future endeavors.

However, Zimmerman looks like a pretty young guy to me. Way too early to retire. Did he have enough time in for a full retirement? Did he get a better administrative job with another system? Or did Beechwood force him out?

Refresh my memory. What school principal had the big controversy last year over some sort of drinking party?

Just by reading the first sentence sounds like they are happy hes gone, what ever the reason.

What reasons would they have for forcing him out? And does this in any way open the road up for Bob Noll, who left NCC very suddenly two years ago? A power play to get Noll into the seat might be the intitial logical choice, agree or am I way off base?

I found this doing a search on Mr. Zimmerman.

Mr. Zimmerman has twenty-six years of educational experience. He taught math for fifteen years and served as an Assistant Principal for eleven years at various schools.

You would think he would at least try to get in his 30 years.

What does it take to retire these days? 26 years is not enough, correct?

It was 27 I thought, however I think they just upped it to 30 recently perhaps with grandfathering of the lower for current teachers at the time of change.

Sounds more like a conspiracy theory to me. Don't get me wrong, I think Beechwood is lucky to have Bob Noll as the assistant Principal and possible new Principal but the over all theory seems weak to me.

If he only has 26 years in the system and if it takes more than that to retire then something is DEFINITELY up!

Its Beechwood, would you expect any less?

I don't follow you.

And there is a lot of good that goes on at Beechwood.

For teachers who have been around a while the requirements for full retirement are 27 years if service AND be 55 years if age.

If you are short on either you can retire on partial benefits.

That link I provided was from 2 years ago, so he has 28 years in now. I would still think he would want to get 30 years of service though.

OK. I was thinking full retirement at 30 years.

27 years of teaching in Ky. gets you a full retirement package. I have not heard of them upping it to 30 yrs, that's what it was until somewhere in the early 1980's. If you wait until you are 55 with 30 yrs, that does improve your retirement benefits.
