Elite recruit Emmanuel Mudiay going pro overseas, won't attend SMU - CBSSports.com

Huge blow to SMU and great break for UC.

Wow

I've seen conflicting reports on if it was for academics or to "help his family". Which is it?

^Maybe a bit of both?

Can't say I blame him. Go make 6 figures and work on your game full time. Only question is he mature enough to go over seas but I've always been a believer in learning through trial.

Is Brandon Jennings the only other one who has gone this route?

I'd put my money on academics. He was at SMU. Helping his family probably wouldn't have been an issue.

Was it Jeremy Tyler maybe that also tried this; I could be wrong.

Was going to drop a few bucks on SMU to win it on my upcoming trip to Vegas but not now for sure!

He was mentioned at the bottom of the article.

Sucks for Larry Brown. As a college bball fan, I'm bummed because I like watching the top players.

He wasn't going to make it through the clearinghouse. They can sell it however they'd like, but that's the deal...

Was Mudiay a kid that moved down as a kid and tried to move back up to his natural class? If so, wonder if that caused him some issues. In addition, the NCAA (grrrrr) seems to focus on kids from these basketball factories more than the traditional schools.

Justin Martin (formerly of XU) just went from being Pippen to being Jordan.

Um, no. SMU is still loaded with talent...
