To answer the question about why any school would move him - he was being told by recruiters that his future in college is as a DB. He is just responding to what the recruiters are telling him.

I know what the answer as a parent would be, but as a coach, it puts them in an awkward position. As a parent I want what will help my son at the next level if he has a chance to play.

 

A coach (hopefully) will always want what is best for the athlete, but is it fair to the team to take a player who is better at one position and would help the team more playing at that position and moving him to another position that won't help the team as much and may in fact hurt the team just to prepare him for what he will be playing (maybe) at the next level?

 

I guess what I'm asking is, if you are the coach, do you hurt the team to better the player or do you do what's best for the team?

Okay. Let's see if we can have a civil conversation about who the top wideouts and tight ends are this year in NKY now that the regular season has come to a close. Let's hear why guys should be considered and not a bunch of jibberish just trying to support your guy.

Winkler and Venneman are best.

The only WR that has really impressed me this year was Winkler.

Haven't seen Venneman so I can't talk about him but knowing he has the most receiving yards in the area he'd have to be #1 or #2 in my book.

 

No TE's have actually impressed me much this year. I know Hedger is a big TE and will play at the next level but he seems a bit too slow for me and didn't do anything in the games I've watched. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing him, I think he's a good player and all, just the few times I saw him this year he didn't do anything to make me take notice.

I have been impressed with Winkler and Venneman as well. I think both are very good. If I'm splitting hairs, I would actually go with Winkler. (Yes SK fans, see, not a hater...just tell it like it is and some don't like it!). Here's why. I have seen Venneman just have some flat out drops this year. Some in crucial situations. I love the kid and think he is awesome, but for me to be a GREAT receiver, hands has a lot to do with it and routine drops allow me to place Winkler ahead of him. Again, probably noone close to either of them after that. But I give Winkler the edge. He is also VERY allusive after the catch.

I have been very impressed with Venneman this year and he is definitely the best I have seen in the games I have seen in NKY and Ohio. He is better than any of the GCL WR's that I have seen. I have not seen that many other NKY receivers (the only other NKY team I have seen is CCH and he is better than their receivers IMO - other games I have seen were against non NKY teams).

 

I have not seen Winkler but based on the positive comments on here, I may try to catch him in the playoffs. Sounds like a very good player. RCC9 is right though - Venneman had a couple of big drops in the Elder game - he also had something like 10 catches for over 140 yards so I am not ripping him - he played a great game for the most part against a very good DB who followed him on every play.

Winkler never drops a ball and will dive for every pass he is not afraid to take a hit. I think the Ryle game and another he was playing with a injured leg.

Venneman has had some outstanding catches diving or laying out for the ball. It makes it all the more frustrating when he doesn't come up with one that looks to be an easier catch. His speed still leaves me in awe.

Sometimes the easier catches are the ones that give some the most trouble. When you have too much time to think about it when you are wide open and the ball is on it's way the brain can get in the way of the hands sometimes.

Good points. HS players are so darn good these days it's easy to forget how young they are.

It's like a wide open layup in bball! It's the hardest shot on the floor! But the GREAT ones don't miss them in big time situations.

 

I'm not trying to kill him. I too think he is an unbelievable talent. I just get stunned how many times I've seen him drop balls that hit in in the hands! It's probably 4-5 time in the entire year...But we are talking about GREAT and the BEST. That is the ONLY knock I can come up with on him and why I would give Winkler the edge.

I laugh when you used that as an example because it reminded me of the Harrison twins, who are probably the absolute worst when it comes to layups for UK. Those 2 have missed more layups last year than I think I've missed in my entire life lol.

BTW...UKfan....where's all your buddies to give me credit for picking a SK kid over a Bluebird!??!!! Its probably killing them cause they want to hate me!
