4a is wide open, tough to figure out.

 

4A is tough to figure out, but Owensboro is not a top 5 team.

Collins is tough to figure out because there are a few unknowns at this time. They do return quite a bit of talent on the defensive side and should be solid on defense, but it is yet to be seen how some of the new faces step up on offense. There is certainly young talent in the program that can step up and make plays, but we don't know how good they can be yet. Collins does return most of it's offensive line and a quarterback that has proved that he can make plays under pressure, as well as a very good kicker that can put points up via FG and help out a lot in field position. Also, having Jerry Lucas as head coach is a big positive for the offense.

This is the most unknown of all the Classes, always default to Highlands. So many game changing coaching changes in 4A, where do you start?

I think Boyle Co has the most to gain with Chuck Smith, will probably see the Boyle of old here in a few. Has an athletic QB in Robbins.

 

Lex. Catholic loses a stud TE/WR, but with the loss of Bouvier and Letton, Ryan will need to find some go-to receivers. Collins will be strong again, but don't think they'll repeat this year.

 

Covington Catholic will always be strong, just always have Highlands in their way.

 

Johnson Central- thought the creme rose to the top last year, destroyed last year in the playoffs, will taper off a bit.

I don't think any of you understand the talent Collins lost. Not only were they talented they had a lot ofthe intangibles. Lawson Page was/is a winner. What he provided that team will not be easily replaced. They will be solid but they have a lot of departures they have to replace. Curious to see how they all come together.

4A is tough to figure out, but Owensboro is not a top 5 team.

The only reason they were in the semifinals is because they didn't have to play anyone. Region 1 was very weak last year and that was shown in Owensboro's 50-14 loss on their home field. They should be solid and probably a top 10 team, but unless they are vastly improved from last year I don't see them as top 5 in 4A.

I want to give my top 5 that doesn't include Lexington Catholic, because I don't want to sound like a homer.

 

1 Highlands (rebuild? Nope all they do is reload. That loss in the finals will motivate this group)

2 Cov Cath (always solid and disciplined, a lot of years they were the 2nd best team in 4A)

3 Boyle (Chuck + Robbins = big trouble. They will not exit the playoffs that way again)

4 Collins (I respect the champs enough to place them here, they have to fill a lot of holes to fill but they will improve as the season goes along)

5 Ashland (if they are healthy for the playoffs they are in this discussion)

I was told by one of the players that the increase in numbers is mainly due to the incoming freshmen class. He thought their was between 25 and 30 in that class. He said a few upperclassmen have come out.

Not to mention about a large amount of last year's team. I know Seph Burke is gone and a few others but a large amount of the team comes back.
