Best Running Backs in NKY

Featured Replies

As I think and read about the N. Ky. running backs, I still can't come up with a clear top 5. I don't see anyone I consider a true stud that can carry a team by himself. There are a lot of solid backs and several with the potential to become that stud, but I am not seeing that dominating, top shelf returning back in N. Ky.

Here is a name that came to mind as I was typing this post - Dominick Joseph at Newport. He has some potential. Does anyone have an update on him?

I think Powell will have a chance to be the NKY stud, based on his production in a limited role as a sophomore and the big O line he'll run behind. Will need some help from the QB to keep defenses from keying on him exclusively though.

Smith from NewCath should be a good one. The Powell kid I saw recently and spoke to him in person. Kids cut up and has great speed. Cordell from Cooper may be one of the fastest kids around, just not very big. I expect him though to be the dark horse of this group if he's healthy.

Urlage and lightning quick/fast Nick Kendall will give HHS a couple of nice RBs. I believe you will see more of a run game with two backs, different styles added with a multi-threat at QB (Hoge) will make their running game solid. How the ball is distributed may give one a "top-five" opportunity but I think they will be happier if this trio shares the load rushing.

Dixies running attack will be by committee led by Seniors Zajac & Owens. Going to be a lot of fun to watch!

I see Studer getting the majority of carries from the backfield this year by a lot. He kind of separated from the pack last year towards the end of the season and really finished strong. With a good offseason, I think Studer will finally get the recognition he deserzives. Kid works way too hard.

Coaches will have to prioritie with Joe. His running style is to seek contact. Thats not good for a kid his size, he wont last the season. He is far too valuable on d, plenty of good options at RB including Stokes, who carried it some last year. If Im coaching that team i limit his carries, get it to him in space.

Holy Cross will have Aberntany I believe that is his last name.

Ryle-

England may switch to full time halfback, "Coaches decision". He and Bateman back there will be two of the fastest kids on the team. If he does and has production any where near his last season as a full time back you have to put him in the mix.

I don't think he seeks contact, as much as he just doesn't try to avoid contact. He's learned that he can pick up more yards by lowering his shoulder and keeping his feet churning rather than dancing around like a ballet dancer trying to avoid defenders. Size isn't an issue. He is a mule. He can hang with the big boys just fine. I don't see them limiting his carries. Too valuable on BOTH sides of the ball.

HC has a really good Soph. RB 6'0" 220lbs. Xavier Abernathy #3

That's a big soph. Any relation to the Abernathy that plays or played at UC ?

Yes they are distant cousins but they have never met. That should change very soon.
