Truth? Or, Unhappy Coach?

Featured Replies

Maybe in hopes that things would change.

Don't think it will. Some schools just don't care.

Truth, and its not just Jefferson Co that has this issue.

I heard a very successful, multiple state championship winning coach who was relatively well traveled in this state say once upon a time that there are about 15 or so schools/communities worth coaching at....15 or so who are bottom dwellers & always will be, then everybody else is the same in the grand scheme of things.

Not sure to agree or not on the numbers, but his logic is very true.

Sound like it. Sad!!!

So if you were told you had to go into next week with only 2 assistant coaches because your district wont hire any for you or allow you to bring in guys you want as the head coach of the team, you would be ok with that?

Whether these are new issues (I am skeptical they are) or things just got to a breaking point, I dont believe it matters much. Anyone who quits just days before the start of the season is quitting on kids.

That's one way of looking at it.

One could also view it as the entire district/school administration quitting on kids. Football has the largest participation of any extra curricular activity at any school. It is also the most visible. You don't hire a head coach at a school the size of Eastern, give him 2 assistant coaches, and then say "Go beat Trinity!" .....and then judge him for getting his head handed to him.

These are not new issues, they are issues that just have gotten more and more difficult to resolve. Filling the coaching spots has become difficult, now I am sure all coaches have the daddy's that want to get on the sideline. That is just something you want to stay away from. Coaching is becoming more frustrating by the year. Just my two cents worth. Administration could have made some promises and then not delivered. I guess the coach is just supposed to take it and not say anything.

Not sure how many of you have stood on a football field with 60 players and only 2 other coaches, but it ain't fun. This coach sounds like he may have been set up for failure and it's his name that goes in the tank.

Exactly. In the end. Look out for you and yours.

But he didn't start out that way. You can't tell me that was the situation his first year when they went 11-3. He only wins a few games the next season and then bails before year 3. Jefferson County far and away pays better than anywhere else in Kentucky. You can't tell me there aren't coaches in Louisville that wouldn't coach there. It sounds like he ran everyone off, had the program going in the wrong direction, and the admin didn't want to commit teaching positions to someone they knew was probably going to be let go after one more bad season.

Very common knowledge this isn't a place that supports their coaches. Coaches are hard headed and they think they can change things but then reality sets in!

Maybe, maybe not. I've had several coaching buddies get a head gig and then the principle won't hire football coaches. They'll hire softball, volleyball, basketball, anything but football after the first year or so. Or they get a new principle who wants to bring in their own guy and makes the job as hard as they can for them.

False

Didn't Coach Bibby leave the Eastern basketball program for feeling no support from administration there too?

False

Anchorage school district is higher and Ft Thomas is about a 1000 behind.
