Reds are 5-2 since Votto came back. He's hitting like the old Votto again, hitting over 300 since coming back. It's nice to see this team do well now that it's 100%, it goes me hope

2 games out in the WC race.

They tried to make it more dramatic than it needed to be, but still a big win for them!

Is it just me or are they starting to get the big timely hit more often these days? I feel like a few weeks ago, they rarely get Votto's RBI single or Frazier go ahead HR in the 9th.

I thought the same thing last night. I think having Votto back (and producing) has really helped.

 

Without Votto, this lineup is desperate for an identity.

I can't be the only one that thinks Billy has FAR exceeded expectations this year, am I? Yeah, I know his OBP is still a little lower than they'd like, but he's been fantastic in all aspects pretty much.

For him to be at .272 AVG right now is great. Would like to see his OBP get higher as you said but he is making progress.

He's quickly becoming my favorite player on the team, but I bet a lot of people are starting to say that too.

Even getting on base at the clip he is now he creates so many problems for the D and pitcher. It feels like he's going to score nearly every time he is on base.

 

He's exceeded my expectations by far. Glad we didn't send him back to AAA after the 1-20 start like some wanted.

When Hamilton gets on he sees a lot of fastballs because no one will throw a breaking ball because it's pretty much an automatic stolen base. Even when Hamilton doesn't get on he will see good pitches because Votto is behind him. Fraziers weakness has always been he can't hit a breaking ball. Price minimizes the chances of him seeing one because of him batting second.

Billy isn't striking out much either, he's putting balls in play. With his speed, just putting wood on the ball creates pressure on the defense, which usually will lead to great things.

I'll agree, but would like to add this (and obviously, there are exceptions)...it seems like Frazier has worked on not lunging at the outside pitches (whether they be fastballs or breaking balls). So, if he's not chasing the outside stuff, then pitchers are having to come back across the plate. And this is where he's able to make them pay...because the majority of the time that Hamilton is on, as you say, those are going to be fastballs.

 

I guess what I'm saying is this, I think Frazier deserves some of the credit too. I don't think the Frazier of last year, in between Hamilton and Votto, would have as much success.

You're probably right, and that's one of the reasons why I've thought Bruce could hit in the 2 hole. The problem with Bruce & Votto as #2 & #3 is that it enables a manager to bring in a lefty specialist. Frazier has done very well in that spot.

 

In 17 games hitting 2nd, Frazier is hitting .269 with a .338 OBP, 7 HR & 14 RBI's.

 

He's actually hitting better 5th (.294 avg, .365 OBP with 7 HR & 20 RBI in 28 games) & 6th (.324 average, .410 OBP, 1 HR & 1 RBI in 10 games) but I agree with you, I like him hitting 2nd.
