Covington Holmes Camp?

Featured Replies

From what I could see Holmes sent in subs about the same time in every game this weekend no matter what the score was, and the starting five wasn't always the same from game to game -- probably more about getting a look at players and lineups than "trying to make something happen.")

This is why I pay zero attention to final scores in summer games. Useless.

Oh my....and Holmes isnt as good ad last year. What did Highlands bring to the gunfight?

Let's see.

A regional golf champion, three wide receivers, a running back and an offensive lineman. The baseball pitcher and outside linebacker sat this one out injured.

This is why I pay zero attention to final scores in summer games. Useless.

Why would you say that useless. If thats the case why play games in summer if its useless. I'm glad your not my coach if I was in highschool. I dont think Holmes Coach Covcath Coach Newcaths Coach Newport Coach Coopers Coach etc......... think its useless. This Comment bothers me.

What should bother you is how you didn't get context.

I responded the portion of the post saying that Holmes was running players in and out regardless of the situation. Does a coach do that in a regular season game? Does that sound like a coach who is concerned about the final score? No and no.

Summer games have value. My point is that winning the game is not the purpose of summer ball.

Love how the focus is on how Highlands did against Holmes, but there is no talk of how they played in the other 3 games or for that matter how they performed at the Mt. St. Joe team camp where they got to the semi-finals. This team is what they are and will be more than competitive with most of the teams in Northern Kentucky.

On a side note, lets talk about how Holmes was completely dominated by NewCath at both ends of the floor. Do not buy anything Walter is selling about Holmes not wanting to make a statement in this game. Only game I saw in 3 days where 3 officials called the game. There was not wholesale substitutions until NewCath built a 20 plus lead only to have the Holmes reserves cut the lead to single digits and then NewCath again sprinted away. NewCath took Bolden out of the game pretty much and others were not able to step up and get anything done. There is no one on Holmes roster currently that can guard McDonald or Weyer for that matter. I would say that CovCath and NewCath are clearly the best in NKY and the edge might go to CovCath because of their overall depth.

Parker Harris and a little guard were the only two who really stood out.

Parker Harris because that is the only one you can put a name to the face? A little guard, could describe 3/4 of the team.

After seeing lots of games this June the top 5 teams in the 9th look to be CovCath, NCC, Dixie, Holmes and Cooper. I think any one of them could beat each other on any given night. CovCath impressed me the most.

I would go

1. CC

2. NCC

3. Cooper

4A Holmes

4B Dixie

Wouldn't want to be on Cooper side of the bracket come regional time. They have a bit more room for improvement than the other. If McNeil stays healthy they will be a tough out.

When we played NCC we had no answers for them.

I watched the Holmes/NCC game and agree, Holmes had no one who could stop McDonald either inside or out. He was a beast, not only on offense, but on the boards as well. He does a great job hedging on screens, allowing his guards to be a little more aggressive on the ball. Does anyone know what his statline was?

NCC will be hard to handle with a big of that caliber and Pangallo running the point. I am impressed with the way Pangallo and McDonald play together.

I have heard the same about Holmes from a very reliable source, they will be lucky to stay in the top 4 this year.

I have heard the Birds played well this summer and certainly don't want to focus on this one game at a Holmes team camp.

Keep me posted on how they have done in other Summer games.

Parker really turned it on late last season, hope he can provide great Sr. Leadership for the newcomers. I am assuming Mitchell Cain will be counted on heavily as well as Justin Weyer. All have legit Varsity experience.

Summer ball is now over. Birds ended it yesterday with victories over LaRue County and Covington Holy Cross. Played a little short handed the last several days do to injuries. They have in fact played pretty well all things considered. They still have no size, so they are going to have to rely on playing really good defense and having that defense create scoring opportunities for them.

Parker missed the entire Mt. St. Joe day and a few other scrimmages around that time frame as he was visiting at West Point. Weyer was solid all summer and Cain was up and down. The kid that showed well throughout the summer was Bo Hebel. That will be 4 or your 5 starters I would assume. The other starter will depend on what the coach decides to do at the point guard position.

My sources inform me that Holmes players, coaches, and school administrators met in secret this past weekend; based on the Bulldog varsity's three (3) summer losses, they have decided that the team will tank the entire upcoming season in hopes of a good lottery pick in the 2015 middle school draft.

I expect Holmes will go through some growing pains at the beginning of the season, but I think they will be tough to play against in the second half of the year. Booher has a lot of fast, athletic depth. I think (my hypothesis) we will see "40 minutes of hell" from them this year... and once their kids get used to that system they will be a tough out. Also... Bolden, McClendon and Avery are very good players and their incoming JRs have always been a solid group.

I think Holmes will be alright.
