I was looking at the KHSAA site today and pulled some stats on the players that have been mentioned in this forum. I know there is much more to the game than stats, however I thought these were very interesting and all these players are flat out getting it done! Lots of season left……….

Walter I'd love to see that dunk again if you have the video. I'm a long time McDonald fan and he made a sweet pass to #44 who made a great finish. My son played ball with Drew in the past and he always seemed to get the ball to the right person. This is the first time I've seen McDonald play this year.

Travelers beat Mac Irvin Fire. Huston Hoops beat Howard Pulley. If Oakland Soldiers beat Team Final there will be a 4 way tie. All four teams will have a 3-2 record. Talk about interesting.

When we played NCC we had no answers for them. I watched the Holmes/NCC game and agree, Holmes had no one who could stop McDonald either inside or out. He was a beast, not only on offense, but on the boards as well. He does a great job hedging on screens, allowing his guards to be a little more aggressive on the ball. Does anyone know what his statline was? NCC will be hard to handle with a big of that caliber and Pangallo running the point. I am impressed with the way Pangallo and McDonald play together.

How can you leave Drew McDonald off the list of top 10? He helped the Travelers get to the Peach Jam. He's 2nd on the team in both points and rebounds. Team leading 50% 3ptfg as a post player. 2nd team all state last year as a junior. What more do you need from a kid to be considered top 10?

Interestingly enough 6'7" McDonald and 6'6" Williams are the teams 2nd and 3rd leading scorers. So don't tell these boys they're undersized. They play hard and have a lot of heart. Realistically is the team undersized at this level, yes. But they are undersized 1-5, not just 4-5. Their guards are as undersized as their "bigs" are. McDonald helps break the press b/c their guards are getting trapped by bigger and stronger guards. Not a problem. That's what makes them a better team. In fact, I believe 6'6"/6'7" Matt Rose had an great tournament last weekend, and has been asked to play some 4. keep in mind their "bigs" did all this work w/o Spaulding. He didn't travel to Sacramento nor did he travel to Minnesota. He only played in two games at Hampton, and played very limited minutes the other two games. I also wouldn't say "Guard play wins at this level" I would say "team play" wins at this level. If the Travelers play as a team and share the ball like they have in the past, they can beat any team in the Peach Jam. Congrats boys! You deserve this and earned it! GO enjoy July.

Travelers play Athletes First today at 4 EST. They finish up the trip tomorrow at 9 EST vs Texas Elite.

Game changer is great for following play by play. It's a great service EYBL offers. I agree I don't think they're stats are completely accurate. I've compared a few times and they miss quite a few assists/rebs etc. They seem pretty accurate on pts, however the other stats seem to be off. From the games I've seen in the EYBL, I can say I've noticed those stats missing. However, I'm not complaining. Grateful for GC to follow the game. I know stats don't lie, but they don't tell the whole story either. So I don't evaluate a player's game soley on stats.

Looks like pretty balanced scoring to me.

Heard from a reliable source that interest is heating up for Drew after this weekends EYBL session in Sacramento, CA. The following schools have reached out: Kentucky Wesleyan (Offered) Stetson Davidson Toledo Tenn Tech Columbia Wright St Also mentioned he has been in contact and taken a visit to Belmont.

No doubt having a very good year shooting the ball, however NCC Bigs (McDonald) draws a lot of attention with constant double teams. This makes for wide open shots. IMO this team goes as far as McDonald and Pangallo. Both do so much more than shows up in a stat line. I was extremely impressed when I watched these two in our tournament earlier this year. McDonald is a match up nightmare however his floor game and basketball IQ are off the charts. NCC is very good with 5-6 offensive weapons.

The 16u Travelers had a solid tournament going 3-1. Keep in mind they were playing up an age division (17u). Saturday they finished up their pool by beating SOKY Hurricanes by 60 plus. The entire team was hitting on all cylinders. They opened bracket play against KY Heat and again were very impressive scoring 106 points. At one point they went on a 41-1 run. Next they played the Shining Stars in the round of eight. Travelers led the entire game and the Stars took their first lead with :40 to go in the game. Stars beat the Travelers 48-47. Key Performers for the Travelers: Jalen Perry (Ballard) - this kid had the most athleticism on the court and jumps out of the gym. He was able to run out and finish by getting to the rim. Led the team in scoring. Drew McDonald (Newport Catholic) - Big Strong kid. Very fundamental footwork and most games was unstoppable once he got the ball down low. He even showed his versatility by hitting outside shoots including a 3. I watched the last game and the Travelers never got him the ball. Tanner Jonson (LexCath) - Team sharp shooter. In the game versus the Stars I don't think he missed (at least four 3's). Matt Rose (LCA) - Long and Athletic. Played well up until the last game. His minutes were limited (not sure why). He does a really nice job taking his guy off the dribble. Overall the weekend was a success. Team needs better guard play and needs to expose mis-matches. They have a tendency to just run and gun taking the first shot instead of the best shot. With their athletic ability on the perimeter (Perry, Johnson and Rose) and McDonald down low they are a very good team with a tremendous future.

The 16u Travelers are playing in the AAU State Tournament this weekend in the 17u division at the KBA. They beat Louisville Prospects 75-68. They play SOKY Hurricane tomorrow at 3:15 in the final game of pool play. Bracket play begins tomorrow evening. You can follow the tournament online at http://www.playkba.com. The Travelers are in pool E. Contributions from all players tonight proved to be the difference in the two teams. Good balance throughout.

The 16u Travelers played this weekend in the Boo Williams Invitational in Hampton, VA.They finished 1-2 and didn't advance to bracket play. They lost to Meanstreets from Chicago and Playaz Basketball from NJ. Their sole victory came against the Jackson Tigers out of MS. The first game was an offensive struggle as neither team could find a way to score. The Travelers led by 6 with 2:00 to go but two quick 3's by Meanstreet tied it up. With :05 left Meanstreet had a 2 point lead. CJ Walker got to the rim however got his shot blocked resulting in a 52-50 Travelers defeat. Also in attendance were coaches from Valpo and Illinois. In game 2 the Travelers came out more focused. The Travelers should have won the game in regulation however a missed free throw with :04 left allowed a Tigers player to get the rebound take 2 dribbles and bank in a half court shot to send it into OT. After 2 overtimes the Travelers pulled off a 77-73 victory. The final game was the Travelers best, however Playaz Basketball came away with a 58-53 victory in front of 10 plus colleges coaches inducing former NBA Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown. The following players stood out for the Travelers. Tanner Johnson (Lexington Catholic) - 3pt sharp shooter finished as the second leading scorer for the Travelers this weekend Jalen Perry (Ballard) - most athletic kid on the team who provided 3-4 impressive dunks Drew McDonald (Newport Central Catholic)- leading score of the Travelers and the best option on offense. Drew has been the most consistent player on the team these first two tournaments. All 3 games were very close and the Travelers could've very easily ended 3-0.

I read where someone was asking how the 16U team finished last week in Clemson, SC. Team had a good showing for the first time the boys played together. Went 2-1 on the weekend. Beat Charolette Nets, Louisiana Dynasty and lost to Atlanta Celtics in the semis. Several players had good showings..Drew McDonald of Newport Central Catholic had totals of 43 points and 19 rebounds for the weekend. Matt Rose of LCA had 29 points and 7 rebounds, and Tanner Johnson added 23 points, including a 4 point play to win the 2nd game of the tourney. He hit an incredible 3 point shot coming off a screen as he was fouled. Hit the foul shot to put the team up 1. All that was needed to win the game. Other noted single game performanes go to Christian Theineman of Trinity. He scored 8 points and pulled down 3 rebounds in the 1st game. Jalen Perry of Ballard had 16 points on 7/8 shooting in game two. Complete stats can be found at Big Shots. Sounds like some great team play from a lot of different players, making for a well balanced team with a ton of potential. They travel to Hampton, VA to play in the Boo Williams Invitational this weekend. Travelers are scheduled to play Meanstreet from Chicago at 8pm tonight, Jackson Tigers at 8am tomorrow and Playaz from NJ at 2 tomorrow.
