Wow. It's even worse than I imagined. Johnson Central was absolutely hosed. No excuse. Another black eye for the KHSAA.

 

That's just awful. Absolutely awful.

 

First of all, that fence? I mean, seriously, we had a better fence when we played wiffle ball at LCDAWGS' house when we were kids.

 

Secondly, how could you see that play & more so the reactions of the two outfielders & conclude that it was anything but a home run?

Would be good to know how the conversation took place between the three blind mice . Obviously they meet to discuss the matter , Only 1 of three even remotely possibly made any move signaling ground rule double. So you have two guys who saw HR , and one dufus who might have saw GR double . How does the two who made no call be influenced by the one guy ? At that point in the game with Ashland dejected because they knew LOST and JC celebrating because THEY KNEW THEY WON how in the world does Blue change the call . All three should never ever NEVER call another HS game . Letem' go do little league .

 

No way!!! Little League has done nothing wrong, they do not deserve them.

While completely plausible, that's quite a bit of a stretch.

Perceived make up calls happen all the time. I can't imagine anyone drawing some sort of equivalency between a walk/blown perfect game and a 2 run homer.

I heard that the KHSAA has placed them in the Umpire Protection Program. New ID's and credentials were issued within 24 hours of the debacle, should be able to start umping again later this week.

1st two assignments, Eddyville and LaGrange Prison Leagues, try "botching" a call in those leagues. :whistling:

What is bad is that this happens every year that state is played there. Those temp fences is nothing new there. Guess what it will happen next year and the year after. Contract there is till 2018. I find it funny how the new people to state tournament are upset, don't get me wrong they should be, but us old guys who have been to just about every state tournament, have seen it all, this is not the first time it has happened.

Someone gets hurt on those fences and the lawsuit will be immense. As it should be.

My thing with everyone saying that 2 umpires saw homerun is that it's possible only one did. I'm not sure how the rotations are supposed to work or what each umpire is supposed to be looking at but it would make sense to me that one of the three is looking at the baserunners to make sure they touch bases. So now you only have two umpires looking at the ball (one HR, one GR 2B). Now should have just one been watching the ball and two watching the bases?

 

Umpire at 2nd base was responsible for chasing the fly ball, other two should be focused on infield "if" he chases. Since it appears he didn't chase, then home plate umpire has responsibility for HR call, which it sounds like he called, then the get together.

 

I get all the outrage over this situation. It's the biggest venue for the sport. I get the passion everyone has for getting it correct, especially those on here that are coaches.

 

I also get that officials are human and make mistakes, sometimes big ones, and that is unfortunate. I'm not taking up for these guys, they missed a huge one. Being human, having time to look at it in super slow motion, having everyone talk about it all over every news outlet and social media site, I'm guessing they probably feel terrible.

 

They have to live with their decisions. As I have said on here many times before: take the test, join an association and strap the gear on….easy, peasy…..or is it ?

We had another call in the Greenwood/Madisonville North game that was ruled a catch but it's was pretty obivous that the fence had been knocked down before the catch was made. The catch was made standing on the temp fence.

Guess KHSAA won't make a statement that the temporary fence had nothing to do with that one either.

So you are saying that the "old guys" are partly to blame for not pushing KHSAA to do something about it... I can see your point...

I hear what you are saying. However this wasn't a missed call but an egregious error where everyone in that place, in real time, knew this was a Home Run. Cognitive deduction from player to fan reactions told them the right call even if they didn't see it. No excuses for this crew on this one.

AllenR not saying old guys are to blame... trust me everyone has tried to do something about it.... Maybe you new guys can get something done... Shoot we finally got them to change the days the tournament was played on... We use to not get done with the championship game till late saturday night or even sunday morning and I mean 3am sunday morning.... allenR maybe you can contact the KHSAA and see how far you get. Us Old guys have burned our bridges. Just wondering how many state tournaments have we all been to? I agree with you. Trust me something needs to be done. I would think maybe just maybe if all the high school coaches came together and refused to play at that park than maybe KHSAA will listen and will change. Great picture but this has happened every year state is held there. It's also fun when the ball in flight goes through where the fences come together or bounces through where the fences come together. Allen trust me I agree with you but guess what I bet nothing will change. I hope they do. I guess you could say us old guys are partly to blame.

Okay, I'm going to toss this out there. What if the home plate ump realized he missed the strike in this situation? Maybe he realizes this after he's already said "ball four", and awarded the batter her base. He's thinking to himself, yes, I just cost the pitcher a chance at a perfect game, but hey, she's still got the no-hitter/shutout/win going for her. I'll just "make it up to her" with the next batter and any borderline pitch. Unfortunately, the next hitter cranks one out, game over, right?

 

 

 

Losing coach gets mad and says the ball bounced over the fence...and when one of the other two umpires agrees that it may have, now here's the home plate ump's chance to have his make up call...so he changes his call. After all, it's the best of both worlds, in his mind...it makes up for his missed call the batter earlier, but still gives JC a chance with 2 on now.

 

I'm not saying it's right. But, I could easily see how this might have happened.

 

Let's get it straight......The count was 3-1 to the #3 hitter.....Ball four was a foot outside and at her ankles...This is all he has to try and cover what he has done. He is grasping for air and now he wants to turn it on the previous batter. Get Real...If you wanna go deeper then lets look how well she has hit this pitcher in the past. She had hit from what I was told by an Ashland Coach the only home run off her in the regular season....He can say what he wants and the they can cry all they want but if it was a strike she still has a pitch left and maybe its back to back instead of a two run HOMERUN to win the game.... Bottom line the lady umpire at first gave the homerun signal and the home plate as well... We don't know what went on with the third base umpire... We will never know and the KHSAA will never give answers.. Bottom line is this destroyed what most athletes dream about doing on this kind of stage...
