Car Leasing Growing As A Way To Buy A Car

Featured Replies

Don't like buying used cars, just something about did the other person take care of it. However I keep them till they die. Current vehicles are 18 years old with 190,000 miles and 10 years old with 235,000 miles.

Understand the used car wariness but I've had good luck by putting a lot of research into it. If they don't have complete maintenance records and the carfax move on to the next one.

It also seems like the "new" norm for a lease is an annual 10K limit. How many active people that work does that work for? I would never want to be a mileage watcher.

10k is what you see the lease specials advertised with. All leases can be contracted for the traditional 12k, 15k, or even 18k. Of course that does make your payment go up slightly from what you see advertised.

I bought my first brand new car in December and will put close to 40K miles on it by year end. Leasing isn't an option for me. My loan is 5 years at 0%' date=' so I think I made the best choice I can. I am hoping with great care I can get 300K miles. I'll still have to buy another car in maybe 6 or 7 years. But maybe not. My mom's car has close to 300K, if it hasn't already rolled over since the last time I checked. Some minor issues have popped up, but nothing irreparable. Maybe my car can push 400K, since the advancements in the technology have definitely been significant in the intervening years between my mom's purchase and mine. My goal is to be able to have at least 1/2 the purchase price of my next car in cash.[/quote']

400k miles is tractor range. If you get 250k you made a great investment. You really drive 30-40k miles per year?

It's 90mile one way to work. I am working from home 2 days a week now, so, if all I did was drive too and from work, it would be 28,080 miles. With other trips, it will likely be close to 40K. I'd love it if I could keep it to less than 30K, but I just don't see that at all.

I know I'd be really pushing it. But it sure would be nice! The one positive is virtually all my miles these days are highway miles (55 limit, not interstate 70 limit). A girl can dream. :D

Leases are good for the dealers, that's why they offer them. Personally I don't think a lease is ever "good" for anybody. BUT, for some people it offers a "piece of mind" having something new every 2 or 3 years, and some leases have routine maintenance included as well and if something major breaks, it's usually under factory warranty. I think a lot of older people that have the money to keep a permanent car payment find this aspect of a lease attractive.

Who wants a new car every 2-3 years, as soon as you pull off the lot a birds gonna :poop: on it, a shopping cart will missile launch at it and with the roads around here good luck not having it hit by road rocks.

Just stinks you have to pay that much in gas per month.

My gas budget is actually no worse than when I drove only 60 miles each way. My Camry is getting a combined 37.6 MPG. When I lived in the city, my Focus was getting 38. I average about $70/week in gas.

I do 15k. Works perfect.

New report out today for 1st quarter 2014. Average loan term for new cars was 66 months. Average term for used was 61.

13,000 miles a year just for driving to and from work alone for me. Don't see a lease being an option. That, and I don't like driving a Plain Jane car. If I want to tint the windows and put some music in it, I want the freedom to be able to do so.

There's a comedy skit in there somewhere.

Pretty much my feelings on used cars. Won't ever buy one, because you have no clue what the previous owner did to it, regardless of the supposed condition it appears to be in.

I drive over 15K miles a year and that's almost only for work and basic travel around the NKY area. Not too mention dealerships LOVE people who lease. They make next to nothing on new car sales, make hand over fist on used sales, and absolutely rob ya on leases.

I'm going to need you to tell me how they "rob ya" on leases vs a traditional loan.
