If you are looking for a coach 12 months after your last hire and you are being turned down by multiple people you didn't make a good hire. Don't care how well Maile did in that 1 year.

 

Who did they miss on last year?

 

Hindsight is 20/20. I seem to recall the Maile hiring being hailed by everyone as a great move last year.

I'm assuming the folks in Walton are rejoicing.

I would have to agree! Danny is an incredible teacher. That is where he would be missed the most IMO. I think that he did an outstanding job with the girls last year. Every kid that i talk with at the school loves him in the classroom. Best teacher they have.

I think looking for a coach two years in a row proves the hire wasn't great. Everyone knew his age and knew it was probably going to be not the best move for the program long term.

If I'm not mistaken Dick Maile stepped down for health reasons.

 

He is a fantastic coach, and showed what a difference a knowlegeable coach can make in a program. I will agree that he had some nice young talent to work with, but IMO they would have been nowhere near as successful had Dick not been the coach.

 

I enjoyed watching them, because they did everything right. They understood basic defensive concepts, limited turnovers, valued possession of the ball, and worked for high percentage shots. He maximized their abilities.

 

Too bad that Dick was unable to stick around for a few years. I feel certain that he would have made them a contender at the Class A level, and would have taken their best shot at the Big Dogs.

I like Dan and his whole family. He is a great teacher. As a coach though he been numerous places like St. Henry, Simon Kenton, Holy Cross, and Walton Verona. Small and large. Catholic and public. I would say he has trouble staying settled in any one place.

She will graduate in 2014. Scored 1000 points and didn't play this year at all.

I am pretty sure Pawsat hasn't played the last two years. She quit basketball after her sophomore season and focused on other activities.
