July 10, 201412 yr I've been once. Walked through the casino, but didn't play. It looks like any other casino, nothing special or standout. I did play the horses, and had a great day. But as was mentioned, not enough windows.

July 11, 201412 yr I've been there a few (dozen) times. The Racebook is a very nice venue, with Vegas style TV seating/handicapping areas. Very pleasant on weekdays, not so much on weekends and holidays. A couple of tips on food. The best food for the average Joe comes from the Sports Bar. You can get carry-out. I'm addicted to the fried pickles, and love the fish/chips and the French Dip. When the waitress in the racebook asks if you want a drink, IF you are drinking soft drinks, ask for a can of Coke (whatever) with a glass of ice - beats the paper cup of fountain pop that is standard fare. Also for standanrd concession fare on live race days there is a concession stand on the ground level. Yes, the Nosh has tempting offerings. I recommend the Green Apple Gelato and the Cinnamon Rolls - $3.25 each. I have not eaten in the high-ticket restaurant, Favorites, but hear good things. The Burger Brothers fare are glamorized, overpriced hamburgers. Good if you only have to eat them once in a while, but they grow old quick if you have to eat a bunch of them. My favorite is the Reyes Blue Cheese Burger with chips. We regulars are screaming about price gouging the seats on busy days. I/e the 4th of July, they upped the TV seats to $10 and table-tops to $5. I understand that on Belmont day they really upcharged them. Basically they are charging us more for the added aggrevation of the "amateur day" players. We don't mind paying the $5, it keeps the riff-raff out, but keep it consistent. I don't think Coney charges more to go to the pool on holidays, so we've just been going to Turfway on those days. Definitely not enough ticket sellers/automatic machines. These really get clogged up on weekends. They had promised us account wagering, where you could bet from your TV. Churchill and Belmont park provides this and it is really convenient. Didn't happen at the new Belterra. Management continues to say that they are working on the issues, but it is now two months into the operation and no signs of improvement. Parking has been great. There has been plenty of free parking indoors underneath the facility. However, they have now installed gates which I'm sure will soon allow only the Super Platinum privleged characters to park there. The racing is tough with so many short priced winners. Basically, you have to bet a lot to win a little. I'm a Pick 3/4/5 player, and the rewards are slim when you hit them. There are some opportunities and each Outz mount needs to be put under the microscope. The best payoffs occur if you can beat him. Perry is a good, honest rider who rides a ton of short priced horses, and as a previous poster stated, wins with a vast majority of them. My biggest winners to date are an $80 dollar winner, ridden by Nathan Solomon, a $363 exacta with that same winner, and an $863 Pick 3. However, in between there are a lot of invest $18 to win $35 propositions. The track tends to favor speed, or near-the-lead types. In two turn races, you HAVE to avoid being wide into the first turn, and again cannot be swept out into the middle of the track turning for home. Betting on horses who are running back after being compromised by a bad trip in a previous start is a good way to get a price. If you are not a handicapper, you can pick up a copy of John McDullin's J-Mac Inside Track sheet for $2 at the program stands. He will keep you in the game and give you a few winners. I occasionally wager a buck or two (hundred) in the casino, and like any casino if you are lucky you win, but most often you don't. My game of choice is Video Keno, where again they are squeezing the customer. In all of the other casinos in the area, in Vegas, or even on a Cruise ship, hitting a 5 spot pays 810-1. Not at Belterra. Here you get 750-1. If they are squeezing the customer in that one example that I'm familiar with, I wonder how many other machines they are undercutting the standard payouts. Also they do not have Multi-Card games, only Four Card games. For the small denomination slot machine player, your best bet to win a big jackpot is on the Big (Red-Blue-White) Seven machines. The bonus games are actally 10 cent side bets, so it doesn't matter whether you are betting a quarter on the main game or two dollars, the odds of your winning the jackpot are the same.

July 12, 201412 yr I really object to raising the prices based on the day. As Mustang said you are jacking the price up on the most faithful patrons and then asking them to endure less service and betting ease. You can argue that MLB teams and some other sports teams are going to value pricing but they don't double or triple the price based on the day. Also the restaurant tables in the Racebook are too few in number and they really don't overlook the track like they do at Indiana Grand (Indiana Downs) and the menu selection is limited to the Burger Brothers and Nosh menus. Could be interesting to see what revenues Belterra Park brings in. They had a sharp drop from opening month of May to June's 3.7 million. All the casinos/racinos in the Ohio/Indiana had some drop from May to June but not as severe. The Miami Valley racino continues to rake in over 10 million a month and they do not have as many horse racing patrons or the concert going patrons as Belterra but they must be doing something right.

We went Thursday and had a great time. We didn't get there until 2:30 and ate at the stadium sports bar. I did get the fried pickles and they were excellent and ordered the pulled pork. I didn't realize you couldn't bet the horses from inside the casino. There was plenty of parking and the casino was kind of empty. We made it to track for 6/7/8 races. I bet Outz across board in 7/8. He won the 7th and his horse came up lame in the 8th and didn't finish. I didn't care much for the casino as the slots have gone to basically video games, so didn't play. But really liked the atmosphere. I would love for the Racinos to get poker like in Florida. I hope it really increases the purses for the races.

Location right off I-75 helps, plus lack of competition. They draw a lot from Dayton, Ohio and are the only game in town. (I think)

I hate that place now and will never go back. I've never played slot/video poker/keno and never will. I was a regular customer when it was horse racing only. Outz could win on a donkey at the track, he is that good. Somebody told me that Outs is in the top 10 in the country in wins, but he is a big fish in a small pond and can't or hasn't ridden anyware but Belterra or Turfway. Still commendable considering the injuries sustained in the decades of racing. He's a top notch jockey and rides with class. Well done, Perry!
