May 7, 201412 yr How do the DH rules work? I always thought if a pitcher was also your DH then you pretty much forfeit it considering it is like a whole new position. You do, but Leake wasn't the starting pitcher last night.
May 7, 201412 yr You do, but Leake wasn't the starting pitcher last night. I thought people were alluding to let him bat today which forfeits the DH. I agree he should have batted last night
May 7, 201412 yr How do the DH rules work? I always thought if a pitcher was also your DH then you pretty much forfeit it considering it is like a whole new position. You can replace the DH during the game. You only lose the DH if they are out into a defensive position. So if Leake his for himself and gets knocked out early you would have to do a double switch. You'd replace him with a position player, the pitcher would replace the player that was being DH'd for and the DH would stay in the game. Essentially replacing Lake would cost you a position player as well. But evidently that is the college and high school rule. The AL they have to DH for the pitcher. So if the pitcher bats then the DH is forfeited fire that game.

May 7, 201412 yr Chapman had another rough one in Louisville today. 0.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K. 21 pitches, 13 strikes.
May 7, 201412 yr Chapman had another rough one in Louisville today. 0.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K. 21 pitches, 13 strikes. That doesn't bother me. I'm just glad to see he's throwing again.
May 7, 201412 yr Just one walk for Chapman in his two rehab innings, and apparently he hit 101 on the radar gun last night. As long as he's not flinging the ball to the backstop and his velocity is there, you have to assume giving up these runs is an anomaly. Good to see him pitching again.

Not that it matter but he's had two walks in the past two days. Totals from those two days are: 1.0 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 2 BB, 2 K. 54 pitches, 34 strikes. Totals from his 4 rehab assignments: 4 G, 3.0 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 3 BB, 5 K.
May 7, 201412 yr Schumaker 8 Votto 3 Phillips 4 Frazier 5 Pena 2 Ludwick DH Bernadina 9 Heisey 7 Cozart 6 Leake RHP
May 7, 201412 yr Really wondered why he didn't DH last night. My initial thought is because there are only two catchers on the roster & Price didn't want to lose the DH if Barnhart needed a sub. Plus, Pena has been a bit banged up & probably benefited from a day of rest. Reds need his bat in the lineup, though.
May 7, 201412 yr With Bruce on the DL, at what point do you take Votto out of the 2-hole? I would move him somewhere. He has been stuck on 4 HRs and 10 RBIs for a long time now. Frazier has been hitting well recently. Maybe when Devin M gets back they can shake things up.
