May 2, 201412 yr Why would one interview for a job one is not going to take? A couple reasons: 1. The Lakers' position, traditionally, is one of the best (if not THE best) coaching gig in the NBA. I'd be willing to sit down & talk with the most coveted employer more times than not. 2. As part of #1, the pay would be top-notch. If nothing else, a simple interview would provide negotiation leverage likely to result in a raise. 3. To see how much, if any, control you would have over personnel decisions. As an NBA coach, you'll need some control over the roster to have some success. Unfortunately for the Lakers' franchise, most people believe Kobe Bryant has that control.

Coaching is differnt. More often that not they all say there not taking the job and quite often they end up taking said job.

May 2, 201412 yr Cal's stated for years that it's not about money, he has plenty (although I'm sure more wouldn't hurt). Is coaching in the NBA easier? Longer season but no recruiting year round and all the PR nonsense. With the hip surgery and talk of the workload, maybe Cal thinks the Lakers job may be his last chance at a big time NBA gig.

May 2, 201412 yr He won't leave, well for now. UK is his dream job, but as was mentioned before, he may go listen to them to help leverage in a bump in pay at UK. He is making enough as it is! He doesn't need more, but like many people, the extra money is always good. But for some people money isn't everything? If you have enough money to do what you want to do, them you should do what makes you happy! Is he happy at UK? YES! No matter how much money one makes, shouldn't they do want makes them happy? Cal is blessed that he is making a ton of money in the career hat he enjoys, and at the place he enjoys. BUT, when he was hired, he did say something like after 10 years many times it's best for all parties to part ways. Will he leave! Yes, if you go on his timeline he set when he was hired we have him for 4 more seasons. Maybe he will decide to stay a little longer.

You are interviewing in the real world. Not the glamour that is college athletics and professional sports. You have to go about things much different and play the PR game all the time.
