Love Jeff Ruby. I hope he prevails in his suit. Highly coincidental that Jim Edmonds played here and likely spent some time at Ruby's Precinct and now he opens a restaurant with the same name?!

Not a lawyer by an means (and didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night either) but, I think there's too much coincidence. Don't know how that affects the suit, or to what extent the name is protected.

Jim Edmonds, always hated that guy, always seemed a little too self absorbed. Hopefully Ruby prevails

Edmonds was a jerk in Cincy. Plus, he's a long time Cardinal. Hope he has to pay up.

Maybe instead of cash, Ruby could insist that he get's to pick the new name in STL.....I'm sure we could come up with some great ideas.

"or an athlete trying to be a restaurateur". That made me laugh.

Me too, they are talking down to him and telling him they are going to wear him out financially over this. And although I don't know anything about it I agree that is exactly what Ruby should do.

I do not see the legal issue here.

Is the name trademarked? If so does that preclude it being used by another dissimilar restaurant?

Dissimilar? In what way is a steakhouse dissimilar from Ruby's?

I think I read it, or saw it on the video, that Edmonds is claiming his Precinct is only selling burgers, fries, wings, etc. That it's not even the same type of restaurant.

Is Ruby's Louisville location also called the Precinct? I didn't think it was.

As for the lawsuit, you have to believe Edmonds did this on purpose. But even if he did can Ruby really win a lawsuit here? Does he have the name trademarked?

Looks like Edmond's place is BBQ and bar type food.

I read an article that they sell steaks....Will be interesting.

Yes. Not sure what is exactly trademarked, "Precinct" or "Jeff Ruby's Precinct".
