Miller pitched for BW v WV. Complete game. 4 hits and 2 earned runs. Beechwood bats may have been suffering from a CCH hangover.

 

BTW...The game yesterday was a real nice crowd and fun game to watch. I think both teams are capable of much better going forward. Look forward to potential match up(s) between the 2.

 

I have a Q ?....do coaches in baseball have an option of scratching particular umps similar to basketball and football officials ? Reason is I understand the ump behind the plate in the CCH v BW was supposed to be scratched by BW? It seemed to me he had an obvious bias against BW. No excuse just an observation.

 

No Doubt. I forget his name, but he's a "All about me guy" that likes to show that he's in charge and just waits for someone to argue with him. Called Low Strike all day when Beechwood was batting. Stringer couldn't get a anything even close to the edge called a strike. Once, he seemed to taunt Stringer. Stringer showed non-verbal signs of frustration with a bad Ball Call, but not saying a word. The Ump stood up and stepped from behind the plate staring at him as if to taunt him to complain.

 

Might not have been the difference in W/L, but it definitely had an effect.

I was standing behind the plate for entire game. I think just his facial expressions and his tone in communicating with BW staff and players. Nothing really major that would have changed the outcome of the game. Just a vibe I got in watching the game close up. This was prior to me hearing he was scratched by BW.

I will say this....I think he needs to brush up on his skills when it comes to his disposition as an ump in HS. I think it is unacceptable to get into a staring contest with HS players and coaches. This happened multiple times.

Of course its pretty simple, Stringer needs to get his emotional control up to the level of his Skills. Drop the Eye Black war paint and play the game. You can't wear War Paint and then let the other team taunt and heckle you into failure. If and when he does that, I think he will be unstoppable at the H.S. level.

I predicted CCH winning this game so it's not a surprise to me at all. I think BW is very similar to their team last year. They are very good but the hype around them is much greater than the reality. They were beatable last year and this year seems to be the same. The big 3 definitely bring it but I just don't think the supporting cast is consistent enough to get it done day in and day out.

 

It's high school brother, EVERY team is beatable on any given day. I don't believe anyone ever said they were unbeatable. While Division 1 players, they are still young players learning to control the emotional part of the game. I think just the opposite about the "supporting cast". I believe that it will be a member of the supporting cast that will be the difference in a big win down the stretch.

That gets an umpire scratched faster than anything if I am the coach. Once an ump shows he is unable to handle the emotion of the game and be that even keel judge of the action, he is done.

The ump who shall go nameless always makes sure he gets the spotlight. He loves the confrontation and I'll leave it at that.

I thought he missed two strikes in the 7th. One on a 2-1 pitch to Radcliff that was a great pitch on outside corner. The other was strike 3 against Beechwood that would have ended the game but he struck out anyway two pitches later.

Interesting contrast of two coaches. Krumps doesn't say much to ump but when he does it's loud. Mullins is constantly chirping in their ear just loud enough for the ump to hear. Great game by two very nice teams.

Couldn't have been the fact that he was brought in stone cold from CF in a hostile environment by his coach, who should know better. Kid always has and always will have games where he can't find it, he is not a pitcher (but a thrower), but anyone that pays attention to him should know better and give him ample time to warm up and realize what works and what doesn't. He has to know Kyle was running up against his pitch count. Maybe keep him in for the top of the inning and let him throw? Surely there is someone on the bench that can play OF? I was not only about to get kicked out by the ump, but was close to telling the BW coach what a ridiculous position he put Ethan in. Had no issues with the strike zone of the ump, occasionally you run across a guy that simply has no clue how to call balls and strikes and learn to live with it, he probably needs the money. But surely he knows he isn't any good, so at some point drop the attitude.

I have known the BW coach for a long time and i have never known him to put a kid in without being ready to throw, maybe the kid just wasn't on his game that day? No, try to understand. How many times do you see players brough in cold without the opportunity to warm up? Should not happen, and the was avoidable and has been a recipe for disaster in the past. He should know that. There may be some kids that can do that, Ethan apparently cannot.

Here's the problem... It makes it about him and not the team. More importantly, he hasn't been able to live up to the image he is clearly trying to project. He makes an easy target for the opposing team and he definitely hasn't been able to take the heat it brings to him.

 

There is no one here arguing about his abilities. He is definitely one of the most talented players I have ever seen. IMO, this other crap takes away from that.
