April 17, 201412 yr In the long term it can't be any worse than watch Jerry Bruckheimer movies regularly. Or listening to Rick Springfield.
April 17, 201412 yr Doesn't change my stance. The legal age to drink alcohol is 21. Is it suddenly not harmful just because you turned 21? Everyone knows alcohol is okay. All kidding aside, prohibition didn't work, the money is too great, the demand is too great and I suppose we could call 21 a compromise of sorts. Either way, anyone that is complaining about pot being "bad" should be screaming murder about alcohol and tobacco. And what idiot would think that introducing a foreign substance into your body on a regular basis like alcohol, tobacco, or pot wouldn't have adverse effects. We need a study to confirm that, seriously!?
April 17, 201412 yr Author Defined Young as 18-25 years old in the story not kids getting baked with their parents at 14. Actually, to take it a step further, the article suggests people under the age of 30 shouldn't smoke it unless there is a LEGIT need to medically. On a side note, and I know this is very antidotal, but when I can I watch Judge Judy. She gets pretty raw if you don't know and is easily chapped by some of the absolute idiots that parade in front of her. Many a time some young person has appeared in front of her half baked. She is always asking if they are on some sort drug or medication. More than a few times I have seen young people, early 20's or so, say yes, I am on prescription marijuana. When asked why, sometimes they give a shoulder shrug, but a lot of times its a "my back hurts", something along those lines. I'm telling you, if you go buy her show there are a LOT of 20 something's out there with bad backs. How they got them I don't know cause I'd say most of them have never worked a day in their life to start with. I find it funny yet very sad at the same time.

When you have a little free time hang out at a skate park. I don't see how most of those dudes can walk by the time they are 25.

April 17, 201412 yr Evidently, cause I bet over the years billions have been spent on it doing it. I think that is because marijuana plants reduce global warming. All kidding aside, of course we should be studying marijuana for both the positive and negative effects. What gets me is a study like this comes out and we get see, see, told you so, blah blah blah. It was all over the news yesterday and so many of the analysts were condescending and elitist. Why can't people just admit they have an agenda instead of being a Bloviating Bill.

I'm staunchly against it for minors for a myriad of reasons, but to say there's no medicinal benefit for others is hogwash as well.

It won't stop folks who want marijuana from using it.
April 17, 201412 yr Author Make the legal age 30 then. It won't stop folks who want marijuana from using it. Lets say someone turns 30 today and has never smoked pot. What are the chances he/she starts now do you think? I believe for cigs the age was 19...if someone had not started smoking by then there was very very little chance if them starting after that point. A big reason smoking adds were aimed at young people at one time.
April 17, 201412 yr Is this from your extensive study of addiction theory or just an opinion that you pulled out of the blue ? Granted the ingestion of the chemical is an active choice, no one disputes that, but the jury is still out about the motivation of the ingestion….same as people who are obese or homosexual for that matter…lots of theories, most unproven, but I guess that's what makes the world go 'round. Are you saying that a person is predisposed to use drugs? I'll never buy that. The problem is that the person has made a bad decision for what ever reason, personal problems, depression, wanting to experiment thinking they can control the situation, but it is a bad decision, no matter the reason.
April 18, 201412 yr Lets say someone turns 30 today and has never smoked pot. What are the chances he/she starts now do you think? ... If he/she goes away to college anywhere between age 28 - 32, I'd say pretty good.
