Stephen Colbert to replace David Letterman on "Late Show" - CBS News

"CBS didn't waste too much time finding a new host for the "Late Show." Exactly a week after David Letterman announced his plans to retire, his replacement has been named.

Stephen Colbert, the host, writer and executive producer of "The Colbert Report," will succeed Letterman."

It'll be real Stephen. Which even then isn't necessarily "real". I'm thinking back to his days as a correspondent on The Daily Show.

A twinge of insincerity at all times.

He's replacing Letterman, he'll fit right in.

Anything in particular that you think is odd about it?

I think part of the reason Letterman could not pass Leno late in his career even though Leno was hated over the Conan fiasco , was because Letterman became to political and far left. He ran off a lot of his crowd.

Then you take Stephen Colbert who has made a career out of mocking Republicans, on face value it looks like you have decided you don't want conservatives watching. Keep in mind CBS dominates primetime TV but Letterman still couldn't carry over those ratings to his late night show.

Leno on the other hand ripped both sides of the aisle and came off non political. I could be totatly wrong and Stephen Colbert will be different from his current show but if that is the case it's a risk because he really became famous with his character.

Ehh, a bad show stays bad. :idunno:
I fall somewhere to the right of center on most issues, but still I enjoy watching Colbert. I think he is smart and funny and I think it will be interesting to see what his personality is really like in that setting as opposed to the persona he plays on his current show.

I have nothing against the guy, just don't find him funny very often. Granted, I think he's funnier than Jon Stewart, but that doesn't take much. I don't know, I'll give him a shot, but just have a hard time seeing him do well in that spot, but I've been wrong once or twice. ;)
