McDonald's All American Game 2014

Featured Replies

Their 2010 title was probably the weakest of all their title teams, but it still counts as a championship. UK gave that banner away by going 'Georgetown 1984' against West Virginia in the regional finals. Vitale commented if UK could have made it to the FF that year that it would have been smooth sailing, that Duke's man defense wouldn't have held up to Wall and company. But that's the old iffin game. WVU's zone was enough to send them home so we'll never know.

It still hurts to this day that the 2010 UK team didn't win it all, they were far and away the best team IMO. But, like you said, titles are titles doesn't matter how they come!

Crazy....and then WVU tried to play that zone against Duke, and the "law firm" shot lights out.....
I wanted zero parts of UK that year. Zero parts.

I was opposite. Duke shot lights out against WVU. That team was coming in so hot to the tournament that I didnt see anyone stopping them. I think Duke would have thumped UK in that game.

I wanted no parts of them at all. No confidence had that game happened. Lance Thomas or Zoubek on Cousins? Scheyer on Bledsoe? Wall is still proving to be better than Nolan. Miller and Singler would have been fun to watch. Crap...Patrick Patterson?

Naw, thank you WVU....appreciate it. :thumb:

It took one of the flukiest games in recent memory for that team to lose.

I agree. That game was a fluky as Duke/Indiana in Rupp in 2002.

Good comparison.

After the loss to Tubby 4 years earlier, this one really hurt, especially in Rupp. It was like losing to UK twice. I can remember me and a buddy taking off work to watch Duke's free practice at Rupp that week and all the UK fans there to taunt them, I was interviewed by a Durham TV station about being a Duke fan in Kentucky. I follow them and hope they do well but not the fan that was before, they have let me down to much. Actually follow pro teams(baseball, football, college football way more). College baskeball is too stressful and unpredictable. I get all my college basketball information from Sportscenter, don't watch games live.

Perfect comparison IMO. Just looked up that roster again... wow is all I can say. Not to mention you all lost great players to the NBA too right after that. Do you ever really get over it? :banghead:

No. No I haven't.

Obviously Duke won that year. But shooting 3's would of been different against UK's man to man defense compared to WVU zone. I'm not going to lie that was the most disappointing loss of the 2000's was the UK vs WVU game. I really didn't think a team could match up with them. But the tourney is all about matchups. WVU played a smart game and UK couldn't hit a 3, but like PP92 said Cousins would of had a field day against Duke that year.

No. No I haven't.

I don't think I will ever get over 2010 not winning either.

I just went and watched the last 5 minutes on youtube of that game... just brutal. Forgot they blew a 17 point lead in that game too. Also, this was one of the first comments and I thought this was interesting, and based on the crowd noise it sure seemed to be the case:

Indiana wouldn't have won that game without Kentucky fans. I was there, screaming my lungs out for Indiana to beat Duke. Crazy.

As a coach there are games I'm not over from 10+ years ago.

Toughest part of coaching, that and watching your players graduate.
