bluegrassball92
Bill 211 in the Kentucky House of Rep. passed to enact a snow day forgiveness policy, relieving up to 10 days of instruction time. Now different legislators are calling to have the bill shutdown, stating it just gives schools a free pass and they lose quality instruction time. what are your thoughts? bugatti
I get it, but I also feel school districts have been praying for this decision. To me it is an absolute joke when they allow schools to add 15 minutes to a day to compensate for time lost. So you are really going to tell me that if you add 2-3 minutes of course instruction to each class every day that you are really going to cover more material? Whatever. You get to the end of teaching about multiplication, you are not going to flip over the next page of the textbook for 120 seconds and start on long division. Anyone else with all these snow days still have districts take their full allotment of Spring Break?
bluegrassball92
Our school district has only taken one holiday, and a professional development day to help make up time. We had i think 14 snow days this year too. It's also the little things in situations like this. Teachers and staff have to make those hours up or it comes out of their check. Many times it is hard for them to make those hours up, and they lose money. It isn't a teachers fault when 6 inches of snow comes so why penalize them. gchs_uk9
Our district was never going to take any of the days if given by the state. We are going to school three days of spring break but do get a Thursday and Friday off. The teachers are working on Election Day but not the students and the teachers also worked one snow day that allows all to be off Memorial Day. As of now, all of our students will be out of school June 5.
Jumper_Dad
Bravo to the schools that use at least some of their Spring Break to make up missed days. Too many times Spring Break is like the third rail of a school system you can't touch it.

You would have thought people were being asked to sacrifice a loved one when asked if they would sacrifice some of their spring break to avoid going to school in to June. Districts and many others have been praying for this ruling.
75center
Given KY's historically low ranking in education I would hope they would make up all snow days.

75center
Right... by adding 15 minutes each day. No, that's not the way to go. Just add the days onto the end of the year.

sweet16
What if you made plans (and paid a lot of money) to take a trip on Spring Break? That is the reason why our district didn't go during spring break. They talked about and seriously considered going.
