Some UK Fans Kill ME...and I'm a UK Fan!!!

It kills me how as this season has gone on many "UK Fans" have bashed everything about the program.

 

1.Cal's Coaching ability...many posted that it was time for him to go and replace him with who? Travis Ford?

 

2.Cal's recruiting philosophy...would you really be happy if UK wasn't recruiting and signing top 10-20 players and passing them up for lower level players...yeah that would be OK.

 

3.Specific play by a specific player from game to game...they'll completely bash a Twin one game then ignore them when they have a good game and bash another player that had a poor last game.

 

4.They "Parrot" criticisms they hear or may have read 4 weeks ago that have no relevance to current or recent play

 

5.Unrealistic expectations...Reading many of the post on here after wins (not even after losses) The level of play expected of these players is a higher level of play than is being played in the NBA...

 

It is almost as if they are trying to find as much wrong as possible to complain about so that after the season they can then say "See I told you so, go back and look".

 

For those of you that revel in misery, I don't know what to say.

For those of you that want to be the "I told you so guy", well your not that smart to be the only one to see it...your just the ones babbling on about it. Congrats on being able to say "See I told you"...I'd respect your opinion better if you were a Cardinal Fan and not a Fair weather Cat Fan.

 

I'll admit I get upset when UK loses, I get upset when we make a dumb play, I get upset when we play bad...however I also realize that UK is NEVER going to play a perfect GAME or SEASON...these are college kids.

We live in a prisoner of the moment type of society. For better or worse, things are going to be magnified in this day and age. Rather than enjoying the process (wow I sound like Coach Cal), people want and expect things immediately. Let's just enjoy the ride.

The pet Peeve I've had this season is others misunderstanding what is being said. To give you a perfect example I will use myself as an example. I made a thread a month ago wondering if Coach Cal was beginning to be on thin ice with some fans. I also said in my first post that I don't want any other coach here. That was ignored by many and many took it as if I were calling for Coach Cal's head when all I was doing was trying to get a feel for the fan base and their thoughts on the direction of the team and his coaching.

 

It's jumping to wrong conclusions or misreading what is being said that is my pet peeve.

The thing that kills me the most about UK fans, and like you Jumper I am one, is the way in which they handle wins and losses, specifically wins.

 

If another team loses and even makes mention of officiating or anything of the like, Kentucky fans jump on them for being sore losers.

 

When Kentucky wins the majority of the fan base gloats like high school girls. They hate sore losers, but I've never witnessed a worse bunch of "sore winners" in my life.

 

I can't be the only one that sees this, can I?

You are not. That is why the UK Fan base is looked down upon. Our vocal minority is way too vocal.

As long as Coach Calipari is our coach, our seasons will always be about "The Process" and while that is frustrating when they lose to LSU or South Carolina, its the way that its going to be and I'm happy with it if it means a trip to the Sweet 16 with potential of more.

While we are sitting here in the sweet 16 is a good time for me to post my criticisms of Cal's coaching. We have went 4-1 so far in tournament play, with a final possession chance to beat Florida. Here are things I don't like.

A. He wants a big, score first point guard. (NBA style)

B. He hates zone defense. (NBA style)

C. He doesn't want to press and run even when he has the people or the advantage by doing it. (NBA style)

D. His bench is too short during the regular season when he could be developing depth with playing time. (NBA style)

So basically I don't like his adherence to the NBA way of doing things.

 

What he does well over his full tenure.

A. Recruit

B. Create a culture

C. Develop skill during the season

D. Half court man to man defense and rebounding

E. Much better half court movement in his offense than 80% of NCAA coaches.

Agreed to an extent. One thing that I have learned is just some fans have completely different ways of looking at things. This has called a problem with me and another member in the NFL threads. We have completely different ways that we look at a team. I don't complain about every single little thing, and do see the positives in things. While he takes the complete opposite approach. Were both very hard headed and believe our ways is the right way to look at things and completely disagree with each other on almost everything which has caused both of us now I believe from truly listening to what is being said. However at the end of the day we both are diehard fans for our team, but we just have a completely different way of looking at things.

 

Which there is no right way to look at a team because in the end its just opinions, and that is something I am getting better at understanding is it all is just opinions. So no reason to worry about it if someone takes a whole different approach at looking at things. It is just their opinion and opinion only not fact, and were all still fans of the same team in the end.:thumb:

This thread is exactly why I follow UK basketball, but do not consider myself a "fan." I just roll my eyes at about 50% of people who call themselves UK fans because they do 1-5. The harsh treatment Miller got during his four-years here really turned me off of the fan base, but the 40-0 expectations put the cherry on top.

I would of liked to see Hawkins get more time and Polson get more time than he does. 1 min here and there isn't enough in my opinion. I really like Johnson and glad he's getting a lot of playing time.

I guess I'm glad I wasn't a member on here when Miller was playing because he was one of my alltime favorites at UK. I may have exploded if people ripped him on here. He was awesome.
