SWEET 16....who is the FAVORITE now?

Featured Replies

Owensboro's draw is extremely difficult. Having to beat Trinity and then likely Hopkinsville just to get to the semifinals will be tough.

I just want to see them play. I get the sense that they might be the best team no one is really talking about. Could be completely wrong on that one too though.

Didn't really mean I liked their chances of winning it, just that they've gotten down there before and been better than people thought.

CovCath wins state.

They will, in order:

Beat Clay by 12

Beat PRP by 4

Beat KCC by 4

Beat Trinity by 3

CovCath can play at any speed. If you want to run, they have team speed and the shooters for the kick-out 3's

If you want to play slow down and pound it, they are a bit undersized but play strong interior D and the guards do not allow an easy entry pass (See games vs. Cincy St. X, NCC)

They have enough to win it all.

I agree 100% and for the rest of the State that has not seen the best PG IMO out of the Sweet 16 teams you are in for a treat. Nick Ruthsatz has it ALL and knows how to draw fouls, get to the basket, and will pull up on a 3 if you back off on him. He has put his team on his back and I really think they can win the whole thing not only because of their draw but because they have all the pieces to get it done and can play at any pace.

Regarding Hop-town, I respect the lofty record (30-2), Not losing to a team in Ky., the athletes, and pedigree (have been to state quite a few times)......but.....that schedule strength makes me pause...U Heights 3 times? Who is their best win? Lafayette I suppose.

The middle of their schedule is pretty average to weak. I am sure someone will find a great team on here I missed, but I am not seeing one. I don't see that they are as battle tested as some other teams who have really "scheduled up".

Here's a majorly important question for you. Who are the "dunkers" I need to be looking out for so I can get my shots at Rupp? If anyone mentions Scott County's Raekwon Long I'll obviously not take any other names you put forward seriously! ;)

Riverside and Park Tudor are two teams who'd be Top 10 in Kentucky if I were guessing. Park Tudor is 20-4 on the year and was as high as #4 in Indiana.

Hopkinsville got plenty of tests in events like the King of the Bluegrass, they were just from out of state teams.

The biggest thing hurting Hoptown, and it's kind of been discussed here before, is that they lost early in the KoB and went to the tournament's "other" gym and didn't get as much exposure.

Blake Smith and Wes Wolfe from Clay County both have some springs for Mountain kids.

From Knott Central, Justice, Christon, and Hall can all get some down.

Shane Hall of Johnson Central as well.

As far as the Louisville schools go, I'd imagine Spalding is one of Trinity's better dunkers.

Seeing PRP in warmups against Bryan Station, D'Angelo Hunter and Lamontray Harris both had some nice dunks. One of the two even got a few down in the game and it looked like something that was probably a pretty frequent occurrence.

Hopkinsville won last night... They were #1 right?

Now that the #1 team has gone down....who is the favorite to cut the nets down?

If you look long enough, you'll find a poll with them there.

A. They beat Taylor County two weeks ago. B. They beat Elizabethtown in the middle of the season. C. They played in the King of the Bluegrass losing to a terrific Fort Myers Team. D. They lost to one of the top teams in the nation in overtime - Park Tudor. E. They played region runner up Warren Central. F. They beat region champ owensboro a couple of weeks ago.

I could go on. Also consider that they had a couple of big time game snowed out.

To say they aren't battle tested is pretty silly.

They went for a long stretch with a weak schedule after the holiday tourneys. Do you not agree?

As of two weeks ago HOptown was #1 in the ap poll correct?

Most polls had Ballard #1, correct?

January 11th they played park tudor. January 14th they played Henderson County. January 21st they played Graves County February 21st they played Region Runner up muhlenberg County. That doesn't include the game they added vs. Taylor County and the Owensboro game they added. It also doesn't take into consideration the Joe B. Hall TOurney that they had to miss due to the snow storm.

The computer polls? Yes, I'm sure the did. But I always assumed folks went by the AP poll.
