Officials gift regional semi-final to Henderson county

Should have said "did" blow the blarge call.

And to say one call didn't decide it is foolish. I can deal with missing a call. But when the officials don't know how to apply the rules in a regional semi final it's inexcusable.

Same ref blew all the calls. The tall one. The 5 second call was iffy at best. UHA player changed direction and moved towards basket about 2 seconds before 5 second call . Everybody in the neutral area agreed the blarge call was a block, and that the 5 second call was iffy. Everybody agreed that a no call was the right call on the made shot with 5 seconds left.

UHA clearly got the short end of the stick in crunch time. 3 pivotal calls. 2 being reversed away from UHA by the same ref. you can go a month and not see a call reversed. 2 reversed in last minute!

They did if they didn't count the basket on the blarge.

Great basketball game. 23-20 UHA after one, UHA lead at half 39-37. Henderson ran out to a 59-51 lead after 3. The blarge call came with 1:52 to go in the game, UHA was leading 73-69. Henderson got the ball then scored 73-71. UHA failed to score, Henderson tied it up with 44 seconds left. With 5 seconds left it was still tied and then the charge was called on UHA. I would agree on this one.

Overtime, game was tied at 81 UHA had the ball 32 seconds left and holding for last shot. Ran it down then was called for a 5 second call, just too much dribbling out front. Henderson didn't get a good shot and so it went into double overtime. I think Simmons scored all 8 points for Henderson in the first overtime.

The second overtime was just as entertaining but the difference was Henderson hit a pair of 3's and UHA attempted 2 themselves with neither of them going in. From there Henderson County had to hit FT's in which they did.

I wish I had the stats for everybody but it was an exciting game. UHA most improved team in the region, but the Simmons kid from Henderson just carried them in that first overtime.

(on the blarge call, one official under the basket called block, while the other official called charge. They huddled then gave each player a foul and went with the possession arrow.)

Your last sentence is exactly what I'm taking about. The rule states that if the ball goes in on a blarge (double foul) call the bucket counts and ball is awarded underneath basket to team that was playing defense.

It was the worst call I have seen all year long! Those refs don't deserve to even be on the floor! Uha got robbed that game tonight. Hopefully hoptown hendo game will not have those three officials.

Maybe the refs messed up the blarge call but why didn't UHA stop Henderson from scoring in the last 1:52? They were up by 4. They didn't stop Henderson, then they didn't score, and then they didn't stop Henderson again.

To say the blarge call ruling decided the game is absurd.

Referees that settle for a "blarge" call basically are letting everyone in the gym know that they have no idea what happened!!

Seen this happen in an 8th region game once. Either it is a block or a charge. Call it one way or the other(good or bad call).

The tall ref called the block the short bald ref called the charge. So apparently you were not paying as much attention as you thought. The point is UHA had a 4 point lead after the call and didn't finish. The tall ref made as many bad calls in favor of UHA as he did against them. The kids left it all on the floor and adults want to whine about officiating. I'm sorry but bad calls are part of the game.

Two refs see different things from two different points of views. While I hate to see blarge calls, I would rather have a blarge than one ref talked out of his call and just going with a block or charge. Maybe the one that is talked out of it was correct and now you are penalizing the wrong player.

What do you mean "settle?"

Settle might not be the correct word, but I have always had a problem with the justification of the "blarge". To me, it is impossible for two players to commit a "double foul", especially involving an actual offensive/defensive play involving the ball. By rule, it might all be good, but I think it is a silly rule. Now, keep in mind, I am not a certified referee. But, if I have the ball, and run into you, it's either an offensive foul or a defensive for, or even a "no call", but not both. I assume you are, or used to be a certified official. You might be able to persuade me to change my mind.

If that is what the rule stats, then the refs did not get it correct, but when they brought the coaches together to explain what they called, the UHA coach should have questioned it then, if he knew the rule. I also agree that one call was not the deciding factor.

The refs are from the first region.

The refs are from the first region.

Ironic because 2nd regions refs just about gift wrapped a game for Graves County.

UHA did score. They got called for a charge on a bucket that EVERYBODY thought was an and 1. And yes, taking a bucket away when the rules clearly state it should have counted did effect the outcome.

I realize folks don't like to blame refs, but not applying the proper ruling to a call is inexcusable. And no, the tall ref called the charge. He also reversed the out of bounds call on the previous possession.

If the play is out in the open, then I guess that argument can be made. But, in the one instance that I've seen the double foul called, you had one official on the baseline under the basket...and the other one on a diagonal on the other side of the court (actually in front of the coach on the sideline) having to see through probably 6-8 bodies. Not saying that you can't be screened off by being close, but in this instance the guy on the baseline had the better view.

So I guess you saw both these plays from one seat they happened on totally different ends of the court. By the way everyone didn't think it was a block myself and at least one referee thought it was a charge. The out of bounds call was changed to the right call. Sorry you and I just agree on one thing here and that is that the referees were horrible both ways.

Sorry...maybe should have clarified my remark better. The one I saw called was not the one being discussed in this thread. My apologies.

Do you agree that they blew the application of

The rule on the blarge call?
