It was clearly called a block with an and 1 signaled. Refs then huddled, came to announcer and switched to a double foul and bucket was taken off of board. The ref even used the term "blarge". If the bucket is counted UHA almost certainly wins as that would have put them up 6 with a minute to go. Another blown call. Shocking

 

If they called a "blarge" then both officials made calls. It wasn't just one official and then they decided to add on the other.

I believe if the shot got in on a blare the rule is that you waive off the basket, call a double foul, and the shooter shoots two free throws. I know it sounds weird, but about seven years ago a referee at the Gallatin Steel Tournament explained it to me in the hospitality room.

 

The basket is not waved off. It's not a PC foul. It's a double foul. That's why the basket counts.

 

Had it not gone in there would have been no free throws. It is a point of interruption play. That means the officials have to determine whether the contact happened while the offensive player still had the ball in his hands or after he released it.

 

If he still had it the offense would get the ball.

If the ball was in flight it would go the arrow.

Just looked it up. Only time the possession arrow comes into play is if the offensive player loses the ball or misses the shot. Since the bucket was made then the ball should have been awarded to Henderson with UHA getting 2 points and both players charged with a personal foul.

You are correct for the most part.

 

If he lost the ball and both players were going for it and both were whistled for fouls then it would stay with the offense.

 

Again, unfortunate that it wasn't handled correctly.

I was at the game and the official under the basket called a block but the other official called a charge too. He called the charge and they huddled. There were just as many bad calls on the otherside of this game too. 2 referees made calls all night while the one guy could have left his whistle at home. He didn't make a call all night.

A blarge is the correct term to use. They didn't go by the rule on what to do. If these guys are calling the region you would think that they would know how to apply the correct rule.

Henderson was gifted the overtime 3 times in the last minute of regulation when it appeared UHA had wrapped it up. To deny this is ignoring reality.

#14 playing tough d at the end to earn a 5 second call was a reality too. Great played game by both sides I agree horrible officiating but it went both ways. The blarge may have been missed but one call doesn't make or break a game. The Henderson kids left it all on the floor too and I think its unfair to say anything about this being a gift.

Great basketball game. 23-20 UHA after one, UHA lead at half 39-37. Henderson ran out to a 59-51 lead after 3. The blarge call came with 1:52 to go in the game, UHA was leading 73-69. Henderson got the ball then scored 73-71. UHA failed to score, Henderson tied it up with 44 seconds left. With 5 seconds left it was still tied and then the charge was called on UHA. I would agree on this one.

 

Overtime, game was tied at 81 UHA had the ball 32 seconds left and holding for last shot. Ran it down then was called for a 5 second call, just too much dribbling out front. Henderson didn't get a good shot and so it went into double overtime. I think Simmons scored all 8 points for Henderson in the first overtime.

 

The second overtime was just as entertaining but the difference was Henderson hit a pair of 3's and UHA attempted 2 themselves with neither of them going in. From there Henderson County had to hit FT's in which they did.

 

I wish I had the stats for everybody but it was an exciting game. UHA most improved team in the region, but the Simmons kid from Henderson just carried them in that first overtime.
