That can be the only explanation for Billy Hicks not winning COY in the 11th. Whatever your opinion is of him and /or Scott Co, he should have been a runaway winner. Instead, the 11th region coaches voted Mike Mendenhall from Lafayette. Lafayette was arguably the favorite heading into the season. They had 12 losses (9 or 10 at the time of voting). After the vote they proceed to lose both the district final and regional quarterfinal when leading with less than a minute left. They also had the POY in Jackson Davis. To make matters worse, neither Mendenhall or Davis showed up to receive their awards last night I have been told. These actions are hard to understand.

I agree with all of what you said. Especially since I wasn't expecting Scott County to be as good as they were.

If you think Jackson Davis is a sore loser then you really don't know him. The kid is a class act, and I'm not just talking on the court. He was at the girls final yesterday and was every bit the student fan, staying far away from the playing area until the end of the game so as not to attract any attention and even in the celebrations he was kind enough to step aside and allow me to shoot some photos inside of a celebratory circle the fans and cheerleaders had created.

 

I don't know Mendenhall well enough to comment on his actions though.

Never attacked his act or character. Then why not show and received his POY award? I mean that is big deal/ award. And as far as not knowing J. Davis, well you are correct as far as not knowing him personally. I do know that he is a scapa kid, had been in the program since 7th grades. I did see him get in the face of a teamate cause he wanted to ball to go through him first. That incident caused his extra curricular activity with some parents. Regardless season is over. College choice should be interesting.

I saw Jackson Davis storm the court yesterday after the Lafayette girls won the regional championship game. I was a refreshing sight to see. My guess would be Jackson is a very nice kid because my guess would be that he was raised right.

 

He looked really young without the full beard and I wouldn't have recognized him because of that and the fact that not many 6'8" kids storm courts.

Davis seems like a great kid. However, not showing up to receive the POY award looks bad. With that being said, we obviously do not know what other things might have been going on. My interpretation of BB was it looks like they are sore losers for not showing up. They were the only two not there to get their award.

Basketball is the same. No excuse for not being a member. It only cost $20 a year. You can even get a school membership of Boy/Girls coaches up to 10 for a $100

Definitely no excuse. But that does help to explain why he might not have been chosen. Also, is Hicks beloved by his fellow 11th Region coaches? That might alter some voting too.
