Holmes 72 Covington Catholic 62 2OT (35th District Final)

Pretty sure capacity is around 9400.

I'm not sure if it's owned by NKU or not but it is managed by SMG. Pretty sure SMG has final say on what events go in as in they could bump NKU if they wanted to.

Capacity is advertised as 9400......

I thought it was total Oscar Mayer Balogna when they called the offensive foul on Beetle out on the perimeter. Was inconsistent with how they were calling it on the other end. Ruthsatz was routinely running into the defender and pushing off, yet getting the foul called in his favor. Gotta call it the same both ways.

Officials last night were just simply horrible. It is so hard to enjoy the game when officials are that bad.

Holmes played great. CCH didn't rebound well. As has happened most of this season, CCH relied heavily on Ruthsatz to carry the team. Kudos to Ruthsatz he played as hard as ever. Even played through what appeared to be leg cramps. Schult , Heppler and Wichmann were virtually non factors in this game. Schuh had a good scoring game , but didn't rebound and got some bad fouls. Von handorf gave a good effort, but too many times drove into traffic and didn't dish. Just goes to show that you cannot build a great team around just one player. It takes a team effort. If CCH doesn't learn from this game , get more rebounds and provide more scoring from other players besides Ruthsatz , they will end up out of the regional tourney quickly. They still have the opportunity to be ninth region champions , but only if others besides Ruthsatz come to play.

That was a pretty fun game to attend. In general, I thought the officiating was pretty good. There were some calls that they missed and there is some inconsistency with hand checks and bumping the dribbler, but in general I thought they did call a fairly even game.

The one call that I thought was really bad was when Ruthsatz took a shot fake on a three pointer and the defender jumped straight up and Ruthsatz then in turn took a step and launched himself into the defender. He got the call, but that is either a no call or a charge.

Overall, I thought that Hill was terrific on the glass and on defense. He had a beautiful tip in where he came across the lane and in one motion tipped the ball in. Holmes was able to play volleyball at the rim a few possessions.

The biggest difference in this game from the first meeting was that overall, Holmes played better team defense, rebounded and got back in transition defense. Partly the transition defense was aided by them taking for the most part taking good shots and not bad ones that often lead to run outs.

Also, Holmes did a job of funneling Ruthsatz to the post defense of Hill and Chames, particularly in the second half.

Bolden also played fairly under control and outside the first quarter took decent shots and did a nice job of distributing once they broke the defense down.

It should be a fun tournament.

I agree 1000%

Ruthsatz is the best at "selling" contact, he should get an Academy Award for it.

Sorry, but we will have to agree to disagree on the bolded part. All 3 refs were terrible last night. I am grateful that they will not be doing the 9th region tourney.

I think they did a pretty good job last night. Of course we all think they miss a call here or there, however I wouldn't want their job.

He is also very good at getting by with fouls on the offensive side of the ball when he drives the lane he has a very good knack at lowering his shoulder into a player to make space as well as flipping that elbow into a player to create space or get a blocking foul called.

So that is why I don't pay too much attention to posts talking about CCH not getting calls etc.

Bo Schuh rebounded well last night...he finished with 16 & 11.

Maybe you are thinking of CVH. He was held to 0 rebounds and usually is a good rebounding guard.

I thought it was because you're focused on the student section? :taz:

Congrats to Holmes. Sounds like another exciting game.

As a Cov Cath fan, I don't mind losing such a close game. There's not many 1 loss teams, and it's very difficult to beat a team like Holmes 3 times in 1 season.

Hopefully these two meet again in the Championship again.

There are 2 games I hope happen. It doesn't matter when in the tourney they meet, but any game that has CCH or Holmes or NCC playing eachother will be a classic and a cant miss fame.

Nope, as I said earlier in the month, student section I don't pay attention too and is why I missed all the excitement people talked a out. Same as the PA guys.
