Simon Kenton 2014

Agree with that point. How many of the kids on your list had offers to play in state, but chose to go outside? May I ask where you got your numbers? I looked at the rosters of Murray State and EKU, and those numbers alone add up to 76.

Murray State University Racers Athletics - 2014 Football Roster

Eastern Kentucky University Athletics - 2013 Football Roster

Those players I listed are the current high school seniors from Kentucky that have signed to play D1 next year.

Yes, some chose to play out of state, but how many were recruited by the in state schools, and of those, how many were recruited "heavily"? I know several personally that were never contacted by the in state schools.

I don't think that's an excuse. A service academy kid or kid who's going Ivy League is doing so for a reason, and likely football is a small part of that. It's a different type of student, and none of the instate schools can offer an Ivy or service academy "experience" if that's what a kid is looking for. That's not a bad thing, but it is what it is. If a kid has his heart set on Navy, or Dartmouth, I don't think there is much Louisville (or Murray, Uk, etc) could do to get them to change their mind. Recruiting is a two way street. There has to be an interest andneed on both parties, the student and the school.

I can live with a player choosing to play out of state, no matter what the reason, but what I have a problem with is, in state schools not recruiting those players. If an in state player has an offer from an out of state program every in state program should be recruiting them too. Now, if that happens and the player chooses to play out of state, fine with me.

Ram, do you know anything about Kentucky State or Kentucky Wesleyan? Do they recruit much instate? We don't see them in NKy.

They generally recruit WKY but have made contact with several kids from NKY recently.

Yeah, me neither. Just checking.

Then why are you here? The Raceland coaching thread looks interesting...:thumb:

The biggest problem we have in Kentucky with, not just SK, in getting kids placed is that we have three major programs in EKU, Murray and Louisville that flat out do not recruit in their own state. There are only 3 D2 schools in KY, if you count GTown and that is not a lot of opportunity. My understanding is that Morehead does not offer substantial aide for athletic scholrarship. WKU is the only d1 school in state that actively recruis KY. UC does recruit out of HHS, but that is about it.

Now, with that being said, our athletes have to look out of state , with its associated higher tuition costs , where they cannot use kees money, for scholarships which for d2 and naia tend to be partial.

EKU has several instate players redshirting this year- Jeff Canady, Jared Bowling, Max Nussbaum, the QB from Russell, Spencer Hemmer, the TE from McCreary.

At the D1 level, I agree that height and speed are the most important factor. However, there are plenty of D2, NAIA schools that give football scholarships that need kids too. Your head coach can really make a difference at those levels, which is what I don't think SK has a great track record of doing

I don't think the NAIA or D2 schools want short and slow kids either. They recruit to increase enrollment (see LW) or to win games (see GT). In the case of schools that want to win, they seek out the kids that are at the top of the 'too short/too slow' bucket and get them. They don't look too hard.

BTW, the best recruiters in the state are D3 coaches. They constantly are seeking players and do a great job maintaining contact.

SK starts spring football in April.

Who has said one thing about the kids? I am sure they would love the opportunity to shut the naysayers up, but they have a coach that is holding them back for the sake of his ego. Great kids over there, I think they would do great vs any schedule if given the chance. NCC is great football, but it's still 2a. Delphos St. John's is an AWESOME small school program in Ohio, but Moe isn't calling them to play. Moe took their lumps a couple years playing a brutal schedule, now they are reaping the rewards. I would equate Marksberry to Marvin Lewis on the pro level. He has rebuilt and gotten the program back to a nice level, but he has reached his pinnacle, and I think he knows that.

SK will should have at least 6 kids starting their college football career this coming fall. Kuntz (WKU), Walling (GVS), Krallman (TMC), Wilson (TMC), Hansel (TMC) and King (LWC)

What does Simon Kenton need to do to improve in 2014? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

Silly me! I thought I was in the wrong thread.

There schedule is the same as last year's so far. I have heard rumblings that the Holy Cross game may be bought out in favor of a more competitive game for both teams. Only rumors but heard this could have something to do with Skyline Chili.

Not sure what weeks they play who but here is a stab at it.

Collins

Cooper

Conner

NCC

HC

Ryle

Dixie

Campbell County

Boone

And the same team they played the last game last year.

With having to develope a new QB this year, a first state championship may be a tall order but I would think they have to be the favorite to repeat as the best 6a team in NKY.

Well, even though my team is on that schedule I have to admit that may be one of the easiest schedules any NKY team will be playing next year. I see maybe 1 team that can give SK trouble and that would be Collins.

Cooper - Down year

Conner - Down Year

NCC- 2A school should never be able to compete against SK

HC - down year

Ryle - big ?

Dixie - should be a good game

Boone - still trying to find their new identity.

I can see SK running the tables or only 1 loss. Not saying that shows how strong SK is but how un-impressive the opponents they have are. JMO

Your statement about BC could also relate to SK. They lose a ton of starters including a 3 year starting QB who is a D1 commit. Defense lost two of their biggest playmakers and the young RB is coming off an injury and, is, well, young.

D1 and D2 are ones to count. Lots of kids that start on there high school team can pay to play at the D3 level.

Isn't that their goal each, go undefeated in the regular season and lose in early rounds of playoffs?
