Russell did try to play small ball. I sent in the stands in watched them. 2 shots in the final 5:38 is not because of good defense

 

 

It could have been the three unforced turnovers plus the great D.

 

Cannoy was my player of the game. What an outstanding effort on his part.

:laugh: This game was won good D by Russell. The pg for Russell picked Baldocks pocket twice.And with time ruuning out Russell had that same pg go one on one with Baldock and he made a easy layup to win the game.Ashland JV plays alot of young players they will make turnovers now but give them a year of growing and watch out .

I'm not one for bashing coaches, because it is easy to second guess them.

 

That said, I agree completely with Play 2 Win on this one. The very point of having Senior Night is to honor these young men that have worked their tails off over the course of their career. To toss that aside, in an attempt to win a single game - especially one that has no real, true meaning - was a mistake in judgement. Hopefully, Dodd will look at this and learn from it.

 

To me, even if Russell had won the game last night, so what? The game was for one thing, and one thing only - bragging rights. In the grand scheme of things, what are bragging rights really good for (other than to stroke someone's ego)?

Frances- Sorry to hear about the death of Barney; Don Knotts, I know how much he meant to all of us.

 

You are such a straight shooter and that is why you are well respected. It is always an exciting evening awaiting a post from Frances! You tell it exactly like it is. One or two minutes of play for the 4 seniors to start would have been a kind gesture. Those 4 seniors have played together since the 3rd grade in the Marv Meredith league. Obviously the two that did not get in at all have shown great sportsmanship the entire season, while waiting patiently for a chance to get on the floor, or they would not still be a part of the team cheering them on. Russell is very fortunate to have many juniors that are top notch players. Hopefully, all of them will return next year and they will have another great season. In the past though Russell fans have seen the two seniors that did not play, come off that bench cold as a turkey and get fired up :fire: on the floor before. Senior night won't ever come for those 2 guys again, but it will for upcoming players in the years to come, so the notation of this comment may be worthy. The spectators did notice, many hugged them afterwards and like "TCATfan" said, it would not have made a difference anyway, except to those two boys. They were owed their due respect.

I think we'll all miss Don Knotts - at least, those in my generation will.

 

I'm sure that the two seniors that didn't get the opportunity to play in this game are mentally strong enough to overcome this slight. These two young men have dedicated themselves to the program at Russell for the majority of their young lives, and they did so because they loved the game, they loved their teammates, and they cherished the opportunity to wear their schools jersey in competition. That level of devotion will endure, even in the face of a slight such as this - avoidable as it was.
