What is even worse Frances is that Russell could have started the seniors without jeopardizing the game at all. They could have taken them out after one minuite if they had chosen to do so. But to not start them at all??? I just don't understand that!

 

 

If I remember correctly, Dodd hasn't started the seniors the past two seasons on senior night. I could be wrong but I seem to remember talking about this same thing last year.

I thought it was a great defensive effort by both teams. Neither team could get off a good shot early in their possessions.

This game had a GREAT final 3 minutes, but the other 29 minutes were pretty boring. I think the last 3 or 4 Ashland/Russell games have been around the 40 point mark. Ashland made the plays down the stretch and deserved to win, I think they finished on a 12-3 run, only scoring 6 points in the 4th will just not win you many games. Vanhoose was lights out, and I thought Wilcox played really good defense on him, but he was just hitting. Sizemore really stepped up for Russell, is he a senior?? It was a shame some of Russell's seniors didnt get in the game. That must be pretty dissapointing for them. To imagine playing four years, getting to your senior night, at home against Ashland and not even getting 1 sec. of PT, that would be hard to take, not to mention losing the game at the buzzer.

 

The Tomcats have been playing as well as anyone in the region over the last few weeks, with everyone contributing they have as good a chance as anyone to make it to Rupp. It was great to see Drew tip in that last second shot, hopefully it was a preview of things to come over what should be an exciting couple of weeks in the 16th! Glad to be here!

Russell didn't try to play "stall ball", Ashland was playing great defense and not letting them get a shot off.

Great game by the cats. McDavid played his usual game. Wilcox was in the face of Vanhoose all night. Nothing came easy for him. Cannoy completely shut down Blair and had big 3 point play late in the 4th. Williams hit a few shots and was big on the boards. Everyone contributed tonight. This was a big momemtum builder heading into the district tournament next week. KEEP IT GOING CATS.

 

Great Game...I am so proud of the Russell Players, but I truly wish that the Seniors would have been allowed to play - no matter how long...Each Senior

has played awesome games throughout the season. Lavender has been a starter and great, and will be remembered for his greatness.Simpson has been awesome and picked up alot of slack,he will be remembered as one of the starters.

Maddox was amazing at the Greenup County and Morgan County Games, he was there when the team needed him the most to step up off the bench, and Pat Clarke returned this year with a great attitude and has contributed throughout. He will be remembered for his wonderful three -3 point shots against Boyd County and the many other times he was on the floors. A great tribute to our four seniors which will be great leaders soon. They will be a gift to any college and establishment. I look forward to seeing them in our community as leaders for years to come. I hope to see these incredible young men next week in the District, Regional, and then Rupp. I do think we have a great team to be proud of - We all may not agree with the decisions made during games but we still must give our best in support for our team. We should always be very proud...for we are RUSSELL.

I thought Adam Cannoy's "and 1" during the 2nd half really sparked the tomcats. They seem to feed off his hustle plays and he really got after Blair tonight on defense as well, completely shuting him down.

Cannoy's game has improved so much since last season, his effort and hustle will truly be missed next season. He is a great representation of what a high school athlete should be.

Welcome to BGP, GodIsATomcat! Sizemore is a junior and shot the ball extremely well last night! I believe that he hit 4 3's and had a season high in points! Ashland gets alot of credit for coming back down 31-21 and ending the game on a 19-8 run! They did what it took to win and also give the Devils there due for for being down a duece with 5 seconds remaining and Vanhoose nailing a clutch 3! Both teams made big plays all night Williams tying 3 at 36-36. McDavid's 2 big FT's to give the Cats their 1st lead of the night. Vanhoose's 3, and McDavid's rebound putback at the buzzer! (I also give the Ashland kid who inbounded the ball to Wilcox props he fired a good pass 35ft that only Wilcox could catch, it has'nt been said but I thought the pass was a critical play in helping Ashland get a 10 footer with a putback or taking a halfcourter for the win!

You are exactly right about the inbounds pass. Cannoy was WIDE open at halfcourt, but give Williams credit for staying patient, sticking to the plan, and making a great pass that only Wilcox could catch.

Good luck to To Russell's seniors the rest of the year and after graduation. I also think that it is an injustice for all the seniors not to start or play. Just one minute of playing time at the beginniing of the game for these seniors would not have made a difference in the game and would have given them their due respect.
