You are right . Dodd should had started all his seniors. Raceland has 6 seniors. 5 started . The 6th senior(Osborn), has started all year and offered his starting slot to another senior. I think the Russell coaches could learn something about class from this young man. Not only did Russell not start all their seniors, but 2 of the 4 never saw any game time. :irked: Coaches should realize that the game is about the players, not the coaches. Maybe they should think about how they would feel if the shoe was on the other foot.

How long has Sizemore been playing now? I know he didn't play against the Cats earlier this year.

I thought Adam Cannoy's "and 1" during the 2nd half really sparked the tomcats. They seem to feed off his hustle plays and he really got after Blair tonight on defense as well, completely shuting him down.

That 3.8 seconds did seem to stretch some. But Russell should have never let Ashland get back in this game.

What bothers most Devils is this was Senior night and there were 2 Seniors that did'nt even hit the floor. Win or Lose they should have at least started. It's there last night to play and they didn't get the chance. Every were you go and play on senior night. Seniors always start and starters take second fiddle. It's a tribute to the seniors ????????

I don't understand 2 of the seniors not coming off the bench last night. Why even have a senior night if you are not going to pay them any respects on a night they have deserved. Both of those guys have been in the Russell system since the 3rd grade. They have paid their dues. If they are seniors and can't be on the court for a minute or two, then I question why they were kept on the team at all. Bottom line is Coach Dodd did not play these players in an attempt to win a game. So, They didn't play and he still lost the game.

Congrats to the Tomcats for finally getting a win over Russell!!

 

Anyway, everyone starts over now. The Tomcats have some momentum to build on having won 6 straight. But I hope they don't think that they are now automatic favorites because that would be a big mistake. The Tomcats have played some poor teams and some good teams in that 6 game stretch and some have been close. The key is to play fundamental ball and take it one game at a time!

What is even worse Frances is that Russell could have started the seniors without jeopardizing the game at all. They could have taken them out after one minuite if they had chosen to do so. But to not start them at all??? I just don't understand that!

Russell didn't try to play "stall ball", Ashland was playing great defense and not letting them get a shot off.

I have to totally disagree with this statement!!! Ashland did play good defense, not great, but I would love to see how many shots Russell took in the last 3:30 minutes of the game? I would venture to say, three at most. One made close to the end of regulation (less than 11 secs. remaining). The other two, whenever? If you do not call that stall ball, you're not watching the same game I did. Give Ashland credit, but not taking shots in high school basketball does not credit a defense to be "great". Flynn, and staff, did outcoach russell tonight, particularly on the last inbound play. It kinda reminded me of that sick feeling :scared: of watching a UK-Duke inbound play a couple of years ago.

Good defense? It was great Defense. IMO. The final 3 min went like this: Russell would inbound the ball and set up their offense, which is set to get Jonathan a shot coming off a couple screens. Ashland fought through those screens and stopped the initial shot selection and then comitted a foul so that Russell would have to inbound and set up again. Ashland had 2 team fouls when that started and 6 when Vanhoose got a shot off. So do the math, Tcats executed that strategy 4 times straight. It was a great coaching call on Flynn's part. So I don't consider that "stall ball" at all, you may but I don't. Russell may have been a little picky in their shot selection, I would've been to if I had a Jonathan Vanhoose, but you have to credit Ashland's defense for holding them to 2 shots in the last 3:30. Just my opinion.
