February 22, 201412 yr Which one would be the state of Depression? That's funny because when I was in HS Civics, we had to created a state. My group created the State of Depression. The capitol was Confusion. We had such state industry as waste landfills and mental hospitals.
February 22, 201412 yr That's funny because when I was in HS Civics, we had to created a state. My group created the State of Depression. The capitol was Confusion. We had such state industry as waste landfills and mental hospitals. Sounds like North Dakota
February 22, 201412 yr Senators were never meant to be direct representatives thus we have a House of Representatives. I wish we would go back to the old way of selecting Senators The beauty of the system is that in the Senate every state regardless of population is equal. Seems the Socialists would love that. Sent from my iPhone using Forum Runner What you're proposing, of course, is a return to when senators were selected by state legislatures -- as opposed to being elected by the people (after 1913, I believe). But wasn't that system set up when only white males with property got to vote? Sounds like the framers got that one wrong. I don't think these mostly liberal young female voters today would think too highly of resurrecting that idea.
February 22, 201412 yr Don't care. If it pisses someone who thinks like you off then it's most likely a good idea. Select the state legislatures just like they do now, let everyone even know nothing liberals vote for them. Edited February 22, 201412 yr by All Tell

Unfortunately for you and Rick Perry, I don't see the 17th Amendment being scrapped anytime soon.
February 22, 201412 yr So the 17th is OK it's just that pesky 2nd that libs like you have a problem with? And again my mind set has become that if simple libs are opposed to something it MUST be a good idea.
February 23, 201412 yr Central Valley state will not have much food since the Feds cut off the water to the farmers. Drought: Feds cut water to Central Valley farmers to zero - SFGate Central Valley farmers took a crippling blow Friday when U.S. officials made the unprecedented announcement that they would get no irrigation water from the federal government this year because of the drought.

February 23, 201412 yr Author Maybe the # of Representatives could be based on the Square Miles of each state...the bigger the state the more reps
February 23, 201412 yr Yeah lets flip the calendar back to pre-1913 . Reminds me of a line from an old Tom Lehrer classic. "Poll tax, poll tax, how I love ya', my dear old poll tax."
