A student athlete who "greyshirts" is able to enroll in the university and take classes. The student athlete can not enroll with a full-time class load or else the clock (5 years to play 4 years) begins.

 

Typically, with greyshirting, a the student athlete is NOT on scholarship since they are not a full-time student. The scholarship begins when they have full-time status, typically in January at the start of the second semester.

It's not different. He will start on scholly in Jan 2015.

Lots of kids grayshirt. A notable one off the top of my head is Lone Oak's Corey Robinson that went on to light it up at Troy.

Just so happy for BK. Great kid who will do great things. Love to see kids from NKY do well and represent.

After talking with Brenan today it's not a typical greyshirt situation. He is actually going to enroll in the fall, compete in practice and in theory compete for playing time as a preferred walk-on, then be placed on scholarship in January 2015. He will likely wind up redshirting, hence he will be four years on scholarship starting with 2015 season, but who knows he could also end up playing in the upcoming season. Great situation for him though as he is 17 yo and turns 18 in July. Redshirt year would be perfect.

I just have a very hard time when a kid flips, especially this close to signing day. Not sure what else GVSU has in this class, but to lose a QB the week of signing day is tough to overcome, and honestly could keep them from coming back to SK to look at kids.

WKU was after him before Petrino left. Soon as Brohm got all his coaches hired they went after Brenan and got the best QB in Kentucky!

What you're saying is technically true. However Kuntz needs to do what is best for himself. Its a cutthroat world and colleges can and will show no loyalty to the player.

Does having him enroll this fall essentially cost him a year of development? If he did a true grey shirt he would be graduating six years after high school but since he is enrolling this fall he will lose eligibility after five years, both assuming he redshirts one year. Am I understanding this correctly? I feel it would help him in the long run to truly grey shirt.
