Obama: People don't like me because I am black

Because we as a society show on a daily basis we are completely incapable of doing it ourselves, IMO.

I refuse to subscribe to the belief that government knows best.

But that's always been said to disparage the other side. "Lefties" said this under Bush, complaining that wealthy Republicans wanted to neuter the domestic budget so their tax rates could go down a little, i.e. that they wanted what was good for themselves instead good for the country. And both Democrats and Republicans have claimed this to be false, that their policy ideas are meant for the good of the country.

So, where does that leave us? I just don't think claiming one side has a monopoly on righteousness is fruitful, especially when we know both sides have their self-interests, biases, and gamesmanship.

I don't think I attached a label to one side of the aisle or the other.

OK...what about these: licensing of dogs; laws requiring owners to pick up their dog's poop; laws requiring confinement of ones dogs; laws requiring bicycle helmets; laws prohibiting riding a bicycle on the sidewalk; laws that prohibit one from leaving their running car unattended.

Why should government be large ever?

So you cited laws. What PROGRAMS?

Are you asking me if I find most these laws trivial ? Then yes I do. If I want to ride my bike without a helment its none of the governments business. I could list law after law I find intrusive .

Most programs are on the federal level , I was mostly referring to intrusive laws that "protect" people from themselves. I don't need the government to protect me from myself . Again I will never believe big government is good government to much data to prove otherwise. Restriction of freedom is never good. If a law protects people from other people that is the governments job .

To act like there aren't more intrusive laws in urban areas is to ignore fact.

You see no value in any of those I listed?

So, you'd be ok if you lived in an urban area and there was dog poop all over the place?

Like I said any law that protects other people is fine. You allowing your dog to poop in public everywhere affects public health so obviously I'm fine with it. Laws meant to protect people from themselves is what I have a problem with.

So, you'd be ok if you lived in an urban area and there was dog poop all over the place?

I prefer having the laws you refer to rather than ban dogs altogether...which they do in many places.

The other laws are to protect the stupid...ie. kids wearing helmets, people wearing seatbelts, texting while driving, etc. They shouldn't be necessary.

However, it is real easy to cross over the line of personal freedoms.

I don't care what color he is, I don't agree with him politically. Period. I would certainly vote for a person of any other color than myself as long as we agree on the issues important to me.

Agree 100%. I really don't understand voting against someone because of their skin color. It boggles my mind. Growing up in Alabama I saw things like this all the time and got into a few fights over it because some white kid was picking on a black friend(I will never say African American) of mine. I feel the same way about religion.

I like being white....jpg

Yeah, paint a picture of white people being the victim of racism.

Yeah' date=' paint a picture of white people being the victim of racism.  [/quote']

Are you saying white people are never the victim of racism?

Big Business used to a much better job of policing its unethical practices, but those days are going the way of the drive-in theaters. Just look at what happened in '08 and the financial meltdown. Duh ... there's a reason for Congress and the Executive Branch to get involved with tougher banking requirements ... lest we risk another Great Depression.
