Things I would like to see changed in college basketball

Featured Replies

1) 24-30 second shot clock.

2) Move back the three point line to international distance.

3) No more alternating possession rule. Jump the ball.

On a lighter side, but also serious...

4) No more goofy camera angles unless it is for a replay. I genuinely believe FT percentages drop by 10 percentage points when they show the shot from under the basket. It makes me a nervous wreck when they go to an alternate angle during the course of action. Bad things happen to good people when this happens.

The worse rule in basketball is when a player graps a basketball while in mid air heading out of bounds and calls a time out and gets it and other plays that are similiar.

I agree with all of your changes. Hate the possession arrow.

The new charge/block rules are too complicated. Simplify the rule and I don't care if it benefits the ballhandler. It should be rare and difficult to get a charge call.

Didn't they get rid of that one?

Didn't they get rid of that one?

Yeah I'm pretty sure you can't do that anymore.

I sure hope so.

You can't do this is college, only high school.

They did eliminate it in college. Not high school though.

Do away with the 1 and done....although that is more on the NBA than college.

I wish it was like Football or even Baseball for D1 athletes. 3 years then you can go pro.

Have to keep possession arrow I think. Games are already too long with the way officials are calling the game, which by the way, is the way it's supposed to be called.

Look at the UK game last night. I know it went into overtime, but it was 3 hours long! Imagine adding jump balls on tie-ups. I know they don't happen much at the college level, but to me that would slow the game down even more.

If I was a referee I'd never call a charge. Ever. Even if the offensive player ran over the defender with a truck, I'd still call a block.

How many alternating possessions are there a game? 3 or 4 on average? How would that take up any more time than forcing teams to go to the sidelines for an inbound pass that can take up to 5 seconds and may result in a team taking a timeout?

I have seen this one mentioned recently. Only being able to call a timeout in dead ball scenarios. If that were the case I would not be opposed to the NBA rule of allowing teams to advance the ball to mid-court. I think it makes the game more interesting.

How about allowing an additional foul or making it a technical foul if you are beyond the limit?

Putting the ball in play on a sideline/baseline is MUCH faster than getting your jumpers lined up going the right direction, all the other players in proper position and having to "referee" all the action that could potentially happen during a jump ball.

Just my opinion as a former official.
