January 15, 201412 yr Mother Theresa and Coach Cal...both fought poverty. Never quite saw Coach Cal in that light. I don't think that is quite how he meant it. He is trying to make kids dreams come true. I love when people say that it doesn't matter where these 5 star kids go to school because they'd go to the NBA anyway. There are so many examples of this not being the case and Cal has a great track record with putting kids into the NBA and developing them so he talks about it a lot (maybe too much, but that's okay). So, he is helping end poverty for families in a way, but John Anthony wasn't trying to compare him to Mother Theresa. Look at Eric Bledsoe, who was NOT a 5 star or expected one and done, who is on the verge of signing a max contract after this season. Eric Bledsoe was living out of a car in high school for a time period and think of what Coach Cal has helped (note I said help, not that it was all him) him accomplish. Stories like that are what make me proud to have him as our coach. I wish we could win every game but that's not the case. Here is hoping fans don't forget to enjoy the ride and keep their love for UK basketball no matter what's going on.
January 15, 201412 yr Amen, Cal just rubs me the wrong way, and I'm starting to wonder its more about Cal or KY basketball?? Sick of all these me first players and starting over year after year.
January 15, 201412 yr It is bizarre the difference in officiating. Wisconsin only went to the line 4 times against Indiana. I'm sorry but the way they take it to the basket, there in no way there was only 2 shooting fouls. Exactly my point I watch both games; and it's like they were played on 2 different planets. The NCAA which I'm sure is so BUSY needs to do something about this.
January 15, 201412 yr A squad full of NBA players benefits us fans if those NBA players are at UK for several years. 1 and done has benefited us once. It's not like it benefits us every year. Elite 8, Final 4, National Title, NIT, TBA. Your standards are incredibly high if you believe only the National Title year the "1 and done" benefited UK. Last year was so bad not because of who was brought in. Well a lot of it was. But it had more to with how great they were the year before.
January 15, 201412 yr A squad full of NBA players benefits us fans if those NBA players are at UK for several years. 1 and done has benefited us once. It's not like it benefits us every year. It's worked every year except last year. This year is TBD. Coach K has a 1 and done squad next year, some players left sooner than Cal thought. But when you can be a millionaire after one year of college you leave... Nature of the beast.
January 15, 201412 yr Mother Theresa and Coach Cal...both fought poverty. Never quite saw Coach Cal in that light. Well Cal is leading the crusade now.
January 15, 201412 yr And it is easy to say Coach Cal's schtick is getting old when they are not winning. Not many were complaining before last season.

As a Kentucky fan I certainly benefitted from watching and enjoying John Wall, Demarcus Cousins, Eric Bledsoe and etc. Sure the end of the season didn't go as well as I would have liked but to say it didn't benefit Kentucky fans just doesn't seem right. I want National Championships, who doesn't? But only one team walks away with that. If that is the only benefit you get, you're gonna be disappointed a lot. They've had one bad year under Calipari and when its all said and done, this year will not be the 2nd.
January 15, 201412 yr Cal has a great track record with putting kids into the NBA and developing them so he talks about it a lot (maybe too much, but that's okay). Just my opinion but the only reason he's always talking about it is because the guy never stops recruiting. He's always trying to take advantage of an interview or situation because you never know what a recruit will hear and I'm sure those 5 Stars eat that up.
January 15, 201412 yr Maybe the cure for cancer too? Sure why not, he also rebuilt Haiti, the people down there like him a tad more than you.. Lol
January 15, 201412 yr It's not just this season they suck at free throws, it's just about every season under Cal no matter where cal was, his teams suck at free throws. He lost a National Championship at Memphis soley because of free throws. It's a common theme with his teams. At UK alone: 2010: 67% from the FT Line 2011: 71% from the FT Line 2012: 72% from the FT Line 2013: 64% from the FT Line 2014: 66% from the FT Line How does that compare to the past? 1998: 67% from the FT Line 1997: 68% from the FT Line 1996: 71% from the FT Line 1993: 69% from the FT Line 1992: 72% from the FT Line 1984: 72% from the FT Line 1978: 76% from the FT Line 1975: 70% from the FT Line 1966: 75% from the FT Line I took the above teams that were Final Four or National Champs and threw in the beloved Unforgettables. The biggest pattern I see is that FT shooting is declined probably for everybody. Athleticism and drives have won the day over shooting from the field or the Line. The last two years have been bad at the Line but it's not like the Pitino-Smith run was overflowing with FT shooters. :thumb:

I still can't figure out how BCG was able to have two really good FT shooting teams :lol2: If I remember the 2012 led the SEC in FT shooting.
