First I don't recall saying Holy Cross was bad as a matter of fact I said they were good so why wouldn't I say they have a shot at winning 9th in the A. I said highlands struggled with their size and I felt that would be why scoring would also be a problem with NCC . The fact you bring up Boone Co as struggling to get high schoolers to fill a freshmen team as well as Highlands or any other large school is laughable . You compare the fact Boone can't get girls to come out for basketball at a 6A school similar to Brossart and NCC having to use 8th graders? Really?? One is about flat out numbers the other is a problem I don't claim answer to but this is apples to oranges. The All A is not a state title as I believe has been stated. It's a tournament during season that invites a certain size of schools. Are you upset you weren't invited to the Montgomery County tourney at Christmas also? What about the Connor tourney you were in? Was it unfair NDA and Ryle and NCC and Campbell county and all others didn't get to play in it? It's just another tournament during the year that gets good coverage. If it really bothers you not seeing Bellevue and Villa and Silver Grove and Ludlow I think Bellevue has a Christmas tournament with these teams maybe you should take it in . And my big finish of your comment NCC and Brossart have all these schools they draw from and economic advantages that others just can't overcome on a basketball court, how does Newport , holy cross , and Bellevue possibly pull of handily beating Brossart in football by 30+ every year. Wouldn't these same factors kick in? How do they do it? I say same to Brossart in football, get better.

There is no actual enrollment "limit". The All A is open to the bottom 125 schools, which can change year to year.

The All-A is not sanctioned by the KHSAA and they don't recognize the winner as a state champion. The KHSAA crowns one state champion at the end of the year. I am not taking away from the winner of the All-A, as I know its very important to a lot of teams...but it's not like the KHSAA has a state tournament for "only the A schools" and then allows them to compete in the statewide tournament as well.

1st bolded - What's it matter "why" the numbers are down. The fact is, every team struggles filling their bball teams and they all play with young kids. No different than NCC and Brossart. You either have good numbers or you don't. BBall numbers are down at every school. That's the fact.

 

2nd bolded - I understand that. But, try to convince me it's not treated like a state championship. Heck, every year after this tournament, NCC has a week or two let down because they have to convince the kids that the season isn't over! They always bounce back, but if you know anything about NCC, that is a completely true statement. I don't think there is that let down after any other tournament. Heck, one of the arguments last year is that schools have banners in their gyms listing the All A accomplishments. Do the other tournaments you listed get banners hung in the schools when they win? You can say it's not "officially" a state event, but c'mon!!!

 

And am I upset we weren't invited...not at all. Why would I be upset that we weren't invited to a state event that doesn't even include all the best teams in the state? If I want to claim a state championship, I want it to be a "State" championship. That's how we do it in KY.

 

By the way, I do go down to the Bellevue tournament to watch on occasion. Good to see those kids get to play against equal competition.

 

Last bolded - you really want to use Brossart football to comparing this to. In your example, you are using a team that gets beat by most teams, not 1-2 teams dominating all the others like the All A. And football has classes to control that. Again, either bball should have classes or they shouldn't. Which side are you on?

 

On a side note, I'm very supprised Brossart football isn't good yet. But from what I hear, they were getting mixed support from the administration. Trying to decide if it was worth it to continue or not. There was a subject about that last year. So I can't really fault a team on lack of success when they weren't sure if they were getting the support they needed anyway. By the way, that a statement is sticking up for Brossart football, not knocking them.

RCC9 don't forget to show some love to the All-A Baseball, Softball, Volleyball, Golf tourneys too. It's not all about Basketball.

 

I do wonder how the Math works that NCC and/or Brossart having students from Catholic grade schools in different cities and it adds up to 350 students in their school is somehow better than Lloyd having 540 students or Newport having 380 or even Catholic private St. Henry having 480? Isn't More better? (Insert cute kid commercial here)

More is not always better if the quality is there at the smaller school. If a basketball team from school A has 8 really good players and a larger school has 15 really good players, are you telling me that the team with 15 really good players has an significant advantage over the smaller team in a sport that plays 5 kids on the court? My point, NCC gets kids from multiple schools every year. They get new prospects and only have to field 8 kids from all those schools to be good. They typically get their pick of the best players from most of the feeder schools. Ncc gets kids that choose to go there for various reasons. Some being bball. There is nothing wrong with it. But Lloyd pretty much knows what they are getting when they start kindergarten. They don't get kids in every year. They know who is coming. They deal with the hand they are dealt. Good athletes or not, that's all the get. Same with newport. Kids don't transfer or choose to go to Newport or Lloyd to play bball or any sport. So if you really think any of the small public schools have the same advantage as NCC, I'd say you are pretty naive. I don't believe that you really believe that.

 

And I hope you realize you are talking about two different cultures as well. Do think the kids that go to Newport and Lloyd all get the same family and support system as the kids that are privileged to go to NCC. Do you really think those kids get the same opportunities to play select sports and get personal training. C'mon. Please don't try to say its even close to equal.

 

As for St Henry, they don't have any excuse. If they complained, I would say get better. The only thing I can think with them is that their athletes focus on volleyball and soccer. I don't have an answer for them. I have actually had that conversation with parents and coaches related to St Henry.

Disagree with that statement. If I'm not mistaken (and I apologize in advance if so), but I believe the starting forward for the girls team (a very accomplished player) began her career at Holmes.
