9th Region All "A" Regional

Unfortunately, you only have one left with Bellevue defeating Dayton last night and Calvary falling to Bracken County. Boys tournament will be interesting for a while.

Just showing them some love.

I wish we had a few posters from the small schools on BGP.

Two schools on that list have a shot at advancing. NCC and Brossart. That's it. And by the way, they are the same two just about every year. And they both also have a shot at winning their region. This tournament is fun for maybe 3-4 schools on that list.

True, but take those teams away and you have teams that would get "absolutely crushed" in the 1st game of the State Tourney. Those 3 or 4 teams can't help they have the athletes to compete on a higher level, year in and year out.

I think we figured we'd be out in the first rounds. So is this "small school" tournament really for the small schools? Or is it just an extra game for the true small schools. The only reason Bellevue is left is because they played Dayton. The same 2-3 teams in every region win and move on every year.

Maybe those schools who are not the 2-3 teams that move on every year should try and adopt some of the things that those 2-3 schools have. Do they have Instructional basketball for first and second graders? Do they have leagues for 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade teams? Do they field both competitive and non-competitive teams in the 7th and 8th grade? I'm sure you will find most of the starting lineups for those 2-3 teams have Girls that have played all thru grade school and almost all played on extra non-school teams while in grade school.

Actually they do. Dayton has a league that ludlow, newport, Bellevue and Dayton all have teams in at all ages. So that leaves mostly private schools and I'm sure they all do as well, with maybe the exception of Latin and Calvary. They may too, I don't know. So I would say, yes, they do have developmental leagues. And I ran an AAU org and had kids from Bellevue, Dayton and Newport on our teams.

Then there should be no excuse for those schools not being among the 2-3 teams that could advance every year. Just like schools that have a Junior Football League like Fort Thomas does should have no reason to not be as good as Highlands ends up being every year in football.

NCC and Brossart are small schools .look at their attendance or as Andy Dufresne famously said " How can you be so obtuse ?"

My whole problem is separating out any of the schools. If you say this tournament is for the small schools and the same teams win it in just about every year in every region and those same teams also compete for their normal regional titles, what is the intentions of this tournament? Its not to highlight small schools that don't get any recognition. Its to highlight that a very few small schools are very good? We already know that. Some have programs that can compete with any school. They are who always win it. Why do we need this tournament to tell us that?

Bet if you look at the last 10 years of each region, you could be very close to picking who will represent at the state for each region before the tournament even started.

Sure you can. And what is wrong with that? So a school should not strive to have good teams year after year? Take out the teams that generally win the their All-A region every year and you have no All-A tournament because there would be no attendance and the cost would be prohibitive. So if Brossart is the favorite every year in the 10th and NCC is in the 9th that somehow makes it worse because they have a good teams?

Your argument holds no water. Just because a program is successful year after year doesn't mean they should discontinue competing in post season tournaments? So should St. Henry drop their Cross Country program? Highlands - football?

Didnt realize this was a post season tournment. Is this a state tournament or just a tournament? Because if it's a state tournament, why don't we have it at all classes? Why separate them if we agree that the top teams in this tournament can compete with all the other regional teams anyway? Kinda like double dippin isn't it? Well if you don't win the A, you have a shot at the region. I wish my daughter had two chances and one was against schools only her size.

If it's not a state tournament, then what's all the hype?? Just another tournanment that is segmented from the rest of the state...just like every other tournament.

I have no problem with Brossart and NCC being good every year. Great programs! But in my opinion, this is just a money maker for someone. People will use the argument, "this is for the small schools". Well the ones that win in this tournament have just as good of a chance in any tournament. It's hypocritical. It's not to provide opportunities for the teams that are small. It's for about 20% of the smaller enrollment teams in the state. That's it. And again, all those teams compete anyway.

And to someone's point about if you remove Brossart and NCC out of the tournament, there would be no crowd and revenue....Are you serious? You don't think that other teams would step up if they have a chance to be in the finals. Just replace those names with someone else. Are you saying noone would show up if Brossart and NCC didn't play. If they chose to not play one year, would they just cancel the tournament because it's not as special anymore? How arrogant! In fact, it may go up because the games may be more competitive and different teams would have a shot of advancing.
