Disagree with that statement. If I'm not mistaken (and I apologize in advance if so), but I believe the starting forward for the girls team (a very accomplished player) began her career at Holmes.

 

I'm not sure who the "very accomplished forward" is for Newport. But I still doubt she "transferred to Newport for basketball". She might have started at Holmes and ended up at Newport, but that happens all the time between those two schools for various reasons.

I sensed an apology would be due!! I misread the thread, and "jumped to conclusions". When the reference was made for LB to comment, coupled with the statements "transfer to Newport for basketball" and "they certainly don't transfer in for girls hoops, but have in recent years on the boy's side", I assumed the posters were referring to NCC in particular. So again, mea culpa.

 

Now, back to trashing the "A" ....

I think you meant transferred to Newport Central Catholic....Alexis Mayes came from Holmes via the Lady Diamonds Program which was coached by the Freshman girls coach at the time if I recall.

 

two of the boys from Cincinnati that transferred to Newport a couple of years back were considered homeless and living on relative's couches in Cincinnati and moved to have stable living situations.

 

I believe there should be a small school public school tournament and a small school private tournament since one has boundries and limited on where they draw from. Just think if the girls and boys from St. Joe's Cold Springs went to the high school they are a "feeder" school to. Brossart would have McDonald (boys) Davensport, Seibert, Kiernan, just to name a few on the Girls end. If students went to their nearest Catholic Grade School and then went up the feeder line then Ware and Zimmerman would also be at Brossart.....hmmm what would NCC be left with then? Lewis was a homegrown product coming up through Holy Trinity.

Well, thank goodness we are still able to think for ourselves and choose the school we want to attend. Otherwise, my St. Mary graduate and current NCC student would be an extremely unhappy Mustang! An unhappy student would not be very successful, imo.

Of course this wasn't an issue until the Bishop had to get involved and set up these boundaries. When you and I were up on the 'Hill", this wasn't an issue.

I honestly have no problem with NCC or Brossart getting any of those kids from anywhere. They are a private school and they survive on attracting students to their school. That's what they do and there is noting wrong with it...until someone tries to rationalize that they are no different than any public school of a similar size, expecially when those public schools they are comparing them to are not full of the same resources as other areas. And then to say "get better" if you want to compete. Really? That's very easy to say from where they are sitting.

 

I'm fully aware of the Mayes thing. And I really have no problem with that either. If she wants to play where she feels comfortable, then so be it. As long as every school plays by the same rules, I have no issues with transfers or tuitions students. I'm not sure why it's so important in this day and age to transfer for sports, because 90% of exposure and recruiting happens outside of high schools anymore...with the exception of maybe football. So High School sports are transitioning to be just more for fun and school pride. Not saying its not competitive, but it's not really where you get your exposure for the next level. I kinda get it if you're tranferring to play with kids you want to play with, but not just to play for this particular school because they are really good and can get me exposure. Those days are long gone.

What's the enrollment limit to be a part of this small school tournament? I'd guess NDA's enrollment between 500-550, why are they not part of it based on other "small school" numbers? I'm neutral on the whole subject, just curious now that I see numbers from other schools. And maybe this fuels a little more fire for RCC

Sorry, I thought you were being sarcastic and adding fuel to RCC as you said at the bottom. The reason it is funny is because NDA is not small at all. In fact it is one of the bigger schools in N. Ky. You double the count when it is a single gender school, so based on your numbers NDA is a 5A school if we use the football type of classification, and not far from 6A. That is why I thought it was funny and that you were being sarcastic.
