I'm assuming this whole argument you are making is in jest or attempting to just drum up debate rcc9. For starters why is it a given NCC wins the 9th? Isn't Holy Cross in the All A 9th and isn't this the same team that held highlands to 0(zero) FGs in an entire half of basketball . 16 minutes without one single shot finding the net. Didn't Highlands beat NCC ? So why does Holy Cross have no chance? You seem to have a big problem with tourney but in same post you say I wish my daughters had. 2 chances at a title with one against schools her size. So you do want it or don't or do you only want it for your child? Brossart and NCC basically take every kid that comes out for basketball. Very rare do they ever cut . Both use 8th graders typically to field a freshmen team. If this doesn't say small school what does. Are they both good this year in both boys and girls, yes. Is this the automatic case every year that they are favorites for region, absolutely not. My advice if it bothers you that badly stop fighting move a couple miles and join one of them and enjoy the ride . Otherwise just don't read the paper that weekend and avoid the results. To the other small schools you say are just not good enough and getting left out, get better.

 

Oh and why would I send my daughter to NCC? According to you none of the HHS players could play for NCC. Hilarious.

For the record, a lot of this is just for the debate to get you two teams that care about this tournament going. But you always seem to give me a lot to debate.

 

So you're talking about the HC team that held HHS to no FG's in the first half and still lost? I know you were taking a shot at the Bluebirds there, but that's not really a good example because they lost, even with holding them down like that. You would think if a decent team were to hold someone to 0 fgs in a half, they would have won going away. But they lost. And you're the one that said HHS had no chance against NCC and HHS beat HC, so why now are you using HC as an example of someone that could beat NCC. Kinda funny.

 

I want it for everyone's child. Only a third of the state gets to compete for a state title against schools their own size. Why? Why segment out just the smaller enrollment schools?

 

For the record, almost all bball teams these days are made up of underclassmen. HHS is in the same boat as NCC. Last year, there were only 3 freshman in the entire program and 2 of them started varsity and one played significant minutes. Who do you think was on HHS' freshman team last year. All 7th and 8th graders. The year before that, there were only 4. It's happens at all schools. Heck, even a big school like Boone was thinking of not having a freshman team because they didn't have the numbers either. I'm not sure if they ended up having one or not, but they were comtemplating it. Numbers are down at every school. Almost all schools have 7th and 8th graders in the mix these days. HHS' 6th man is a 7th grader.

 

As for the other small teams that need to get better...really? You want to compare NCC, Brossart, and HC to teams like Bellevue, Silver Grove, Dayton, Newport, Ludlow and Lloyd. C'mon, you know better than that. NCC has kids come from St Mary, St Joe, Holy Trinity, St Thomas, St Catherine, Southgate, Bellevue, Dayton, Newport, Ft Thomas, Camp Co school district (not sure about St Phillips and St Peter, Paul And some of those elementery's are big enough to have two teams! And the the majority of the kids that attend a Brossart or NCC have the family resources to get extra training or play AAU year round. Those other schools aren't blessed with families that can afford to do all that. And those other schools have one small elementery to pull kids from and your advice to them is get better? Really?

We do get kids from the same areas and I knew you were going to say that. And I wasn't comparing NCC to HHS. I was making the point that you just can't tell the Daytons and Bellevues of the world to "get better" when they really have no chance until a very unique class would come through. It's just not an equal playing field for them. Against HHS too. I don't dispute that, but HHS isn't invited to the All A. I'm not talking about who beats who. I'm talking about the hypocritical A tournament. If fact, you are kinda supporting my theory. You're right, NCC is as competitive as any big school. So why do we need this tournament again? To create opportunities for the small schools that never have a chance??? Really? NCC has a chance to win the regular region in Boys and Girls this year. Same with Brossart. Didn't Walton just a couple years back do the same thing in Girls bball...win both regions. And last year Walton had just as much chance to win that girls region as anyone. They were very good. Thats my point. Its the same way around the entire state. The teams that win the A, have just as good as a shot as winning the region as just about anyone in their region. Why do they deserve a second chance at a state title and the other schools don't. Either go to classes in Bball or don't. I'm in favor of don't, if everyone plays by the same rules. And HHS girls have never won a sweet 16...maybe it's because like you say...they always get beat by your A team that feels they need a second chance at success.

 

It's nothing to do with any hate of Brossart or NCC. I love both their teams this year. Very good. It's about the people that stick up for this tournament stating that its great for the small schools. Give me a break. It's great for a very few small schools that compete on the state level anyway. Let's hear from someone besides Walton, NCC, Brossart, Nicholas Co, Gallatin, HC or all the other A schools that win it every year. If there were more parity over time, I would say this is a great tournament. But history tells a much different story in girls bball at least. Do you really feel this is a GREAT tourmament if you are the 10-15 other teams that are in th 8th, 9th or 10th region? Or is it just for the fans of the top 1-2 teams in each region to beat their chest. And then by the way, also beat their chest on how good their program is because it competes year in and year out with large schools. Talk about having your cake and eat it too...Yes, that's a cakeeater saying that!

You guys are pretty predictable in your responses. As Lawnboy said, this is a lot of fun setting you up. Easy to ruffle the feathers (look at all these HHS play on words today, I'm on a role). When fans from the same top fan bases are really the only ones defending it, that kinda tells the story in itself. They are the only ones that care.

 

I'm sure it's a great time at the state and maybe even the finals of every region. But please quit telling me it's to provide opportunities for teams that would never have a chance. Silly!

I'm with RCC9 on this one. Great intentions behind the All A tournament, but I believe those intentions have gotten lost along the way. If your team is good enough to compete for the BIG State Tournament then why doesn't your team opt out for a year in the All A? All teams have a pretty good idea where they stand against their regional competition before the season starts and if this tournament is truly for the small teams to have the experience of winning a state tournament then why not bow out and give the opportunity to those that will NEVER see it. I believe that RCC9's stats have some merit to prove that many of the All A Regional winners in the past have made it to the Sweet 16. I thought the All A was for those small schools to experience a State Tournament atmosphere because they will very rarely get to the big dance?

It's good for the girls that get to experience... and maybe Kiernan will get to play in a game or two soon. I'm rooting for the underdog Beechwood this year.
