If schools are not in session, most cancel activities. With that being said, do you want the responsibility of a bus full of students broken down on the side of a rural road in sub zero temps. Schools have to consider these type of problems as well.

 

At what degree would it be safe to travel?

It never gets too cold to play ball. What's wrong with these people.

 

If cold was a reason to cancel games they'd never get any basketball played in the Dakota's, Minnesota, etc.

 

However, in the eastern Kentucky hills where I live we still have a lot of county side roads that are snow covered (only a couple of inches but it ain't going nowhere on this cold) and due to some of them being gravel roads they can't be salted. Students and players still have to travel out of those hollows to get to the gym. It's not worth the risk .

Roads are fine in central and northern Ky. I guess cold is the only reason.

Too cold, that's a bunch of "bunk". :ohbrother: I was out in it all day yesterday and today. I can guarantee "countless" high schoolers left their houses the past 2 days to; see boyfriends/girlfriends, hang out with friends or go to the Mall. Kids today need to be "toughened up", but are "too pampered" by the adults in charge that were once "hall monitors". Plus, today's society is way too litigious.

We have discussed it, but I don't think it's going to happen.

The weather has messed up the WYMT Mountain Classic. It has been shortened to no consolation games, all first round losers are finished for the tournament when they were banking on getting 3 games played. Also it's my understanding that the semifinals and championship games will not be on TV this year due to the NFL playoffs. I'm not sure if that's because they've had to rearrange the tournament format or what, but that's what I've been informed. I suppose I'll have to make the 1 1/2 trip to see the games. Should be some good ones.

Don't know that you can put an exact number on it, however, when they are saying that frostbite can happen within 20-30 minutes in these zero and subzero temps, with -25 to -40 windchill, why risk it. I have been stranded in this type of weather, more than once. Being a retired truck driver, I've seen what can go wrong, when it is this cold, too many times. To me it's not worth the risk. You going somewhere in your car is not the same as a load of students on a bus. Had they played tonight, I'd be in Maysville to see the game. Was looking forward to it. It was canceled and I can understand why.

No ,because kids have to wait on school Buses in the cold. This is not the case with ball games. I know a lot of counties have a rule that if there's no school , there will be no games.

 

So you answered your own question! It's a rule and most as you said observe the rule and for a reason, as the majority of Teachers believe, School is more important than sports!

My boys went goose hunting, I was outside quite awhile myself. The difference being, they went prepared for being outside, as did I. I could warm up at anytime when needed. Northern states have fuel additives at the pump that we don't have here, and fuel heaters that I doubt school buses have here.

Boys/Girls doubleheaders featuring Caverna at Bethlehem at Thomas Nelson at Fort Knox have been cancelled.

 

Spencer Co. at Nelson Co. has been postponed until tomorrow.
