It should just bump Breckinridge into 4A. Bath County should be in 2A and DeSales should be in 3A. Other than that and some of the sorting issues, you're mostly fine until the top of 4A. Valley wouldn't have been in 4A anyway because they're larger than a few that will be in 5A, but they'd be bumped up since you'd missed Breathitt County. Also, you're missing Johnson Central (522 & 551 for 536.5 average) in 4A, which bumps up Atherton (which was larger than South Warren anyway). Other than that, you've got it correct. Your 5A should begin with South Warren at 544.5 and include Atherton and Valley both in it.

 

I don't know how I got Mercer County crossed up. That's the one major I've seen so far.

4A would lose Lex Cath, Cov Cath, Boyle Co which are arguably Highlands biggest competition. It would add Bourbon Co, Mason Co, WCentral, J.Hardin, Wayne Co, so, I think they'd still be challenged, but, not to the degree those 1st 3 gave them.

 

I would argue that Warren Central and John Hardin, based on the strength of their overall product over the last five years, are actually an upgrade over Lex. Cath, Cov. Cath, and Boyle. JMO

That would hold more water if Highlands had gone back to being Highlands on D after that game...but they didn't, they gave up 34 and 35 in their last two games of the season. And I watched that game too...Highlands put their big boys back in the game and they couldn't stop Central either, regardless of what they had done early on. The same thing happened against Lex. Cath a couple of weeks later.

 

Cov. Cath is clearly the superior overall program...but over the last 5 years, I'd still take W. Central and John Hardin.

So I guess the real question is not whether Central would beat any of those Cincinnati powers you mentioned (since very obviously neither one of them can or could), but rather who would Warren Central lose to that Covington Catholic did not?

 

I ask this as someone that is not really making this my fight, but you've only mentioned at this point teams that neither Warren Central or Covington Catholic is going to beat, other than Conner, which you've excused. I could similarly excuse each of what I consider Warren Central's worst losses since 2009 (Grayson Co. in 2009 & Nelson Co. in 2010), both of which were played in the slop and rain.

 

I certainly think Warren Central would have struggled more with CovCath's schedule this year.

Well it was part of a framework of discussion on the changes in the 4A class and how without Boyle County, CovCath, LexCath, the challenge will be less than with additions of John Hardin, Warren Central, Wayne County, and the like. FWIW, I agree that the challenge will be less but it's not because I think one set of teams or the other are tougher, it's because those teams are in Highlands direct line of fire and in Highlands' path to the title game, whereas neither John Hardin or Warren Central are. For Wayne County it will depend on the alignments whether they are either. Bourbon County and Mason County? Yeah, that's a significant downgrade from what Highlands has had to deal with on the way.

You never know though. Highlands will have Weinrich as coach and there is no guarantee he will emulate Dale Mueller's results.

The Belfry/Louisville Central monopoly on the 3A title looks like it might be jeopardy.

 

Belfry is going to be a major factor and one of the favorites in 3A for the next 4 years regardless of whichever teams move up or down in classification. Belfry is about to have possibly the best run of talent in school history between the 2013 Freshman Class and the Incoming 2014 Freshman.

 

Would love to see Central stay in 3A,, especially if the projections are correct that DeSales and CAL will be joining them. That will make for a very, very entertaining district.

 

The Potential new Look 3A could be flat out impressive. Look at these program names and Championship Experience alone:

D2: Grayson County, Logan County, Barren County, South Warren, Bowling Green, Greenwood

D3: Bullitt Central, Bullitt East, North Bullitt, Fairdale

D4: Atherton, Southern, Valley, Iroquois, Doss

D5: CovCath, Cooper, Conner, Grant County, South Oldham

D6: Anderson County, East Jessamine, West Jessamine, Woodford County, Montgomery County

D7: Madison Southern, Lincoln County, Southwestern, Pulaski County

D8: Whitley County, Harlan County, North Laurel, South Laurel

 

 

Thoughts:

D1 & D2: 6 Team Districts and Ohio County is the furthest East, however they would also be the furthest west if they went to District two with is also a 6 team district. Marshall County slides into 5A after being one smallest 6A teams in the last alignments. Graves County barely hangs in 6A & Owensboro SR HS really takes bump up in enrollment to go from 4A to 5A.

 

D3: Fairdale is the furthest South school in Jefferson County, and with Shelby County making the drop to 4A…Fairdale becomes the 4th team in this district.

 

D4: Totally different. All Jefferson County district. This district was once one of John Hardin (now will be 4A), North Hardin (will be 6A), Jeffersontown (will be 6A) and Grayson County (will go with the BG area D2)

 

D5: The same as it's been, just adding CovCath.

 

D6: Remains the same except for Franklin County, who drops to 4A.

 

D7 and D8: With Perry County Central and Letcher Central dropping to 4A, North Laurel and South Laurel go from once being in a 6 team district, to being in a 4 team district….filling the void left by PCC and LC going 4A (unless they petition to go 5A due to distance/travel).
