December 27, 201312 yr Read in SI that the jersey from the epic Duke / UK game was given by Laettner to a friend years ago and is now up for auction...expecting to bring $100,000+ What's the chances an UK bidder wins it and then has it shredded at mid-court during half time of an UK game?
December 27, 201312 yr Author I'm thinking that it could be shredded and the pieces then sold to UK fans for Charity!
December 27, 201312 yr Maybe Laettner wants it back and will try to outbid. Honestly, why bid 6 digits just to shred it up? It's an historical item from one of the greatest, if not THE greatest college game ever played. As a Wildcat fan I got over the loss a long time ago. Edited December 27, 201312 yr by OlDog75

December 28, 201312 yr Author Wasn't the Buckner Ball or Bartman Ball blown up and destroyed by an auction winner to exercise the demons associated with it?
December 28, 201312 yr Most haven't, its only been what 20 years? The Shot is old enough to have a shot with me.
December 28, 201312 yr I'd almost guarantee a UK fan buys it... I was thinking the same thing but I could see a Duke fan waiting to save the day at the last possible minute.
December 28, 201312 yr Nothing would surprise me. When Laettner spoke at this year's fall Holy Cross sports fundraiser, $2000 was the winner's final bid in a live auction on having the privilege to pretend to put his foot on Laettner's head and take a picture.

If more UK fans were like you, OlDog, I'd probably still be a fan of theirs too. I sat and watched that game honestly not caring who won the game...it was just a great game to enjoy. However, the response by the UK faithful over not only the immediate future, but years down the road, have turned me off most likely forever.

I honestly think that Most UK fans would have moved on, if that shot wasn't replayed to death every basketball season. For me, all of my personal "Duke Demons" were exercised in 1998 by the Comeback Cats!

Maybe put it in a display with Cawood's headset (His last UK Game), a game program, and the note written by Bob Ryan "Best Game Ever?" and held up on press row. I remember that NO ONE was giving UK a shot in that game...as painful as is was, still maybe the best Basketball game I've ever seen.
December 29, 201312 yr I honestly think that Most UK fans would have moved on, if that shot wasn't replayed to death every basketball season. For me, all of my personal "Duke Demons" were exercised in 1998 by the Comeback Cats! Yes, it is played a lot. Not going to deny that. But, on the other hand, how many times have we seen Gibson's homer off of Eckersley, or Montana to Clark in the end zone, and many, many other great moments in sports It (showing it multiple times) has nothing to do with promoting Duke over UK...it's just one of the great shots in the sport's history. Why shouldn't they (tv) play it? I am, however, glad to hear that you've been able to move on.
