Cordia 60 Warren Central 54

Final from the Republic Bank Classic.

Disappointing ending again for the Dragons. In both of their losses they held the lead with less than 4 minutes left and then couldn't finish the other team. Those are against the two best teams they've faced (Hopkinsville & Cordia), but those are the teams they'll need to prove they can beat to be taken seriously as a contender.

That's not to say all is lost. Over the years, I've come to expect this from Warren Central. Holiday tournaments against good teams just don't seem to be their forte. They've never done all that well in the King of the Bluegrass and the last time they played in the LexCath tourney they were drummed out in the first round as well to an out of state team. I'll never forget the state champion team looking HORRIBLE in a 25 point loss to Apollo in the KOB and then rocking them by 24 in Rupp.

Just when it felt like Cordia was done, Frimpong scored 9 straight and changed things around.

Lions would be really tough with Hines.

Lowest scoring output by WC in almost a calendar year, going back to a loss to Warren East in early January of last season. That Warren East game was also the last time the Dragons lost when allowing 60 points or fewer, having won 17 straight until today.

It's a stat that makes immediate sense when you hear it, but the Dragons typically lose if they score 55 or fewer. They've lost 14 of their last 17 when doing so. Thankfully, it doesn't happen much.

Any word on the eligibility of Hines or any of the other kids, or at least when we might be able to expect a decision?

Congratulations to Cordia on the big win. Warren Central is no slouch. Cordia has also beaten Lexington Catholic, who is playing well right now, so this only goes to further legitimize Cordia in my eyes.

For those of you who were there, any first impressions on Cordia?

They are good. Frimpong and Cunningham should probably shoot even more. The big kid has a ways to go to be ready for this level. If they had Hines, they'd be real threat to win the 14th.

Congrats Cordia on another solid win.

Going to see them live for the first time tomorrow. What should I expect in terms of style of play?

I'm guessing they'll be trying to press and trap some if they stick to their usual game plan. What about offensively? What types of sets will they run?

I feel like Warren Central gave this game away. They had better individual players overall than Cordia IMO but Cordia out hustled WC and outplayed them in the final 4 minutes of the game. Cunningham was the best player on the court but WC gave Cordia this win.

I'll have a better read on them tomorrow after they play NCC.

Christen Cunningham has a 3.8 GPA and scored a 29 on the ACT.

Not sure what to make of this final.

I know Cordia is a good team but honestly, I've felt WC was a little overrated since people were hyping them after the loss to Hopkinsville.
