Cordia 60 Warren Central 54

Not sure what to make of this final.

I know Cordia is a good team but honestly, I've felt WC was a little overrated since people were hyping them after the loss to Hopkinsville.

Hard for a team like WC to prove how good they are when they can't close games properly. They gave away the Hoptown game and they gave away this game. They also beat Doss handily in a scrimmage and we all saw Doss beat PRP. Key player Chris Amos also returned for the first time this season today as well. Call them overrated all you want. Nobody will want to see this team in March if they make it to Rupp. Ballard included.

Anyone who wants to see Warren Central in Rupp (other than it meaning they're in Rupp themselves) might be biting off more than they can chew.

Only time will tell, but hope you're right. Will make for a more exciting state tournament.

I think it will be between BG and WC in the 4th(big shocker) with the slight edge to WC. I like what I saw from them when they played smart. They can be fixed if they listen to their coaches and buy in.

From the games I have seen in the last week there are going to be some extremely exciting region tournaments and the state tourney is going to be nuts.

I can't wait but I am not rushing an end to the season at all.

I tweeted this stat last January, but I'll update it here:

Since start of 00/01 Warren Central basketball is 95-50 (.655) in months of November & December. They're 241-46 (.840) in January-March.

In other words, they've lost 4 more games in the early months despite having played 142 more games in the subsequent months.

It's cliche to talk about a team being built for the postseason rather than the beginning, but that's Warren Central in spades. They've never been the best December team, and they've consistently underachieved in the holiday tournaments. Some of that is the competition level they play in those tourneys. Some of it is the fact that year after year a good amount of their team is built from football players that are still working into basketball mode. And some of it is just the simple fact that they are not like some other teams in that they aren't at peak form early on. It just is what it is.

Is Central overrated? I guess at this second, yes. They were rated in the top 10, lost to a single team out of it, so I would say that backs them out of it. My eyes don't deceive me though, the talent is there. The depth is there. The #1 thing Central is missing is a true big man, and that may hurt them down the line, but I fully expect to see them at Rupp for the 10th time in 13 years and the only team that is possibly going to prevent that wears Purple and Gold. Get to Rupp, and anything could happen. The only two teams that have an aura about them at this point that I want no part of them is Ballard and NewCath. WC is good enough to beat any other team, regardless of whether they stub their toe along the way or not.

What would you rate Warren Central?

I'm with PP92 in the fact that Warren Central lost this one. Personally I thought they were the better overall team. But, up 6 with a little less than 4 minutes left, I thought WC did some things they shouldn't have done, and they played more like they the ones who were down trying to claw back into the game. They first went back and tried to press. Very unsuccessful and Cordia scored two easy baskets very quickly. Personally I think they should have packed the zone in that they had been playing, shut off the driving lanes and made Cordia try to hit contested 3's or long 2's. With a couple minutes left and down 3, Cordia came out of a time out and hit a 3 out of a designed play. Wasn't pretty but it went in to tie it up. During this whole time WC forced some bad passes inside that lead to turnovers or bad shots. WC just kind of feel apart after that, Cordia took advantage and pulled out the win.

From what I saw WC could be a tough game for anyone and I think should definitely be a factor in their region. But they will need to learn to play with a lead late cause they looked relatively lost doing so yesterday.
