Weekly State Rankings

Featured Replies

Does anyone (like the Herald Leader or Courier Journal) do weekly high school basketball rankings? If so, can someone direct me to where I can find those? I did a little searching of those two sites and couldn't find anything.

The Herald and Courier both have ratings but they usually don't come out until the first week of January. The AP also produces a weekly poll that starts around the same time. Of course BGP also produces a weekly Top 20, which many would say is the best in the business!

I always liked BGP the best.

The last BGP Top 20 I saw was Dec. 15. When will the next ratings come out statewide? Or did I miss them? If so, how do you find them? THANKS!

I have it on good authority that BGP will have one out on New Year's Eve.

Comments:

Tier 1:

Ballard is the unquestioned #1 until someone beats them.

Tier 2:

Serious contenders for state.

Tier 3:

The little things separate them from Tier 2, but there isn't much separation here. (e.g., 'little things' could be something like Holmes having the experience of going to state last year, where the others in Tier 3 didn't).

Tier 4:

See the Tier 3 explanation. The separation here, along with the separation between Tiers 2 and 3, are the closest in my mind.

Tier 5:

Really good teams that can beat anyone on a given night, but probably are lacking if we're talking about making a serious run at state with a normal draw.

Tier 6:

See Tier 5's explanation.

Tier 7:

Two are really solid teams who are probably considered the favorites in their region, but have some early losses that make people think twice. The other is Dixie Heights, who will go as Brandon Hatton goes.

Biggest Upsides:

Cordia & Hazard, depending on transfers and eligibility;

PRP & NCC, depending on how well their talent progress;

Great Unknowns:

Graves County, until they play someone like Hopkinsville or at least get some results against more teams in the state who I'd consider known quantities.

Don't Sleep On:

Scott County, whose losing margin to Ballard looks better each day;

Newport Central Catholic, if they can get in shape and play four whole quarters;

Is the omission of Montgomery County an oversight? The have beaten Madison Central twice.

Montgomery is a top 10 squad. Must have forgotten them?

Agree. I even argue they are better (or at least as good as) last years team.

Yes it is. Had them in and cut/pasted some teams to re-shuffle and must have lost them. I'll fix it.

Knotty County Central is easily a top 5 team.

Even with their bench as short as it is?
