BluegrassPreps.com Boys Top 20 Rankings (12-15-13)

Lafayette is serious good. It's like this: check my Sweet 16 in November picks for State Champs. I started a streak with Christian County. It went on with Trinity. Madison Central last year? Check. I follow the 11th and went public with a bold prediction of Lafayette to come out of the 11th this year. I believe. Maybe it's luck, maybe not, but I'm feeling better about that pick as the days pass.

No way Knott County Central could match up with them athletically. No way. I don't see what Knott does to beat them. It's not going to be shutting Davis completely out. Even if they could, their guards couldn't pressure Lafayette's in a way that would bother them, but I don't think the same works in reverse.

Sophomore Harrison Lane (son of Transy's Lane) is making his shot and you have to play them honest. Don't hold your breath though, kid seems to know his role.

So that's on? Then what do you do with Lance Blakley (6'3) and Dequise Robinson? Who mans them up from Knott? Oh yea, and those are just their Seniors. If even if you can stop them, you've got sophomores Lucky Johnson (6'1 all-city type wideout) and Ross Jenkins (6'6).

How does Knott stop them? Play a zone and let Jackson Davis go to the high post, Lane spot up on the wing, and their bigger, more athletic guards start back-cutting to oblivion? I can hear Knott's coaches yelling "rotate" and "watch the back cut" in my sleep. You think they aren't going to see tougher zones in the 11th than what Knott can throw at them?

Play them man and let their kids try to stop penetration and guards posting? Doubtful.

Press them and force the tempo? Please.

Neutral floor, both teams playing their best, Lafayette probably DESTROYS Knott Central.

Not saying Knott couldn't pull it off, especially if Davis got in foul trouble or something, but let's be real here.

Cordia is all 11th on potential. Just hedging, but they haven't played together much and some of their better players are awaiting rulings. If we're on ESPN playing buy or sell, I'm buying. They'll probably progress as much as anyone in the State because they have the kind of talent that gives them room to grow and they aren't even close to hitting their form.

Obviously haven't seen Warren Central, but I'll take your word on them. It wouldn't be the first time they're better than expected.

Lucky Jackson is a Junior. I agree though, that Lafayette is one of the 10 best teams in the state. I haven't seen every other team, but I have seen Lafayette, and they are going to be a good, good team. This might be their year.

Don't ask. You tell him that is what he is going to be doing.

You're not helping.

Yeah Getslow...you're going to have an update thread on that game.

You're not winning.

Lafayette has a recent history of underachieving. Maybe this is the year they buck that trend. However, Lafayette has zero answer for Cam Justice.

Same was said about Newcath last year in the All A...we all know how that ended.

Trust Joker on this one. I saw Lafayette against Holmes over the summer and he speaks the truth. They are legit.

I think Perry Central is a little too high but only time will tell. From what I have seen, they are a two man team.

Two man in what sense? Two main scorers?

Without looking it up, I'd say Beverly and Johnson probably combine for 70% of their scoring.

They scored 55 of the 66 points against Hazard.

Looking at the score of the Knott County Central-Hazard game tonight, can we come around some on why I'd take Lafayette over them?

We'll get a good sense of just how good Lafayette is soon enough in the King of the Bluegrass and Republic Bank Classic, and maybe I'm hyping them too much too soon, but I think they're going to be really good.

All that said, I still think Knott is a really good team.

Madison central beating #20 Collins by double digits last night and getting beat by MoCo at the buzzer last week. Are they playing well enough to be considered being ranked?

Of course. We'll know more about Trinity and Lafayette on Thursday. Hazard isn't a bad team either.

I'd say so. They definitely appear better than expected.

2. Knott Co Central

3. Trinity

4. Perry Co Central

5. Hopkinsville

My first thought is where did it come from?

I just happened to come across it while doing a search. I assume as long as I'm not posting the entire list of rankings, I don't need a link. If I do need a link, a mod can delete the post.

Just looking for feedback as I feel that list is WAY off.

I'll just say... I greatly disagree with this list.

Harrison Co. plays 5 teams in the current top 20. Holmes, Scott Co., Henry Clay, Montgomery Co., and Collins. Will be interesting if they can compete with the some of the top flight teams in KY.
