I'm new to the area, and new to Blue grass Preps. What does the 9th region look like for this spring?

First, welcome to the area and the site. Good to have you here.

 

As for your question, it may be too early to tell. Some teams will depend on which kids come out on February 15th.

 

But since you asked I'll give my opinion based on what I know (or what I think I know).

 

Ryle (last year's 9th region champ) returns quite a few talented players and should be one of the early favorites. I'm not sure how many they lost to graduation but I don't think it to be many.

Dixie (last year's runner up) only graduated 3 seniors and returns a lot of kids. They consistently started 3-4 sophomores last year to go with a junior class that has some solid players. Should be one of the early favorites as well.

I believe Beechwood had a young team as well and as they continue to play together and get more experience they can contend. (Don't get me wrong, they had a good team last year too.)

Cov Cath always finds their way into things. I do not know what they have coming back though.

NCC can never be discounted as they won the two regional titles prior to last year.

Honestly, I feel like this region will be to way race between Ryle and Beechwood. Beechwood returns three of the best players in the 9th with Combs, Stringer, and Suchanek. With that being said, don't count out Dixie. They are a team led by catcher Seth Caple and could really make some noise.

Suchanek is committed to XU. Combs and Stringer will be D1 players in the future, no doubt about it. They might even be able to get drafted out of high school depending on how they continue in their development.

Highlands will be very good. They probably have one of the better power hitters around in Ramey.

Yes. Both he and Ramey are juniors.

I don't know how they will do in the 9th this year, but Cooper is basically returning their entire pitching staff from last year. 5-6 starting position players from last years squad also.

 

I don't see this team knocking the cover off the ball, but the pitching should keep them in many games with the top 3 returning pitchers of Dunn, Lawhorn, and Smith as well as Hathorne and McMahon and some of the soph's arms can make this an interesting season for the Jags.

 

This Jags team under a new coach this year may not win their district, but will not underachieve as much as they had the last 2 years...you can write that one down. This team may have the best pitching staff in the 9th.

 

As far as the best players in the 9th, the 3 BW kids are deffinatley fun to watch, but I'd find it tough for anyone to find a better all around player than Mason Forbes for Ryle this year.

That is what I'm hoping. I never met the coach yet but have heard very good things from his former players at Ryle.
