1st off, if you are waiting until the next season to play then you are playing with teams totally different from the championship teams. The Seniors are all graduated, you have a new crop of sophomores on each team etc.

 

You need to look no further than Collins this year. Collins team this year was totally different fromt eh team they put ont he field last year and lost 47-0 to Highlands.

Games like that would mean nothing. It wouldn't tell you who the best team is or anything close to that.

 

I thought about this too... It would be nearly impossible for the Champions to play that same year. While it would be fun and very interesting IMO, I don't think it could be done from a logistical stand point. Doing it the next year, however, could help some post season discussion that following season.

Mine wouldn't have anything to do with pairing the previous year's state champions. Again, that is too difficult from a scheduling standpoint unless teams could play 11 games. There is no realistic way of matching up state champions. It just doesn't work. I was just talking about taking the traditional powers of Kentucky football and having them square off with one another on a yearly, rotational basis.

Play the State finals on Fri and Sat like they do now and have the winners in all the classes play a game on sunday there as an exhibition type of thing. Have 1A play 2A, 3A play 4A and 5A play 6A

3 games on Sunday to reward the champions and KHSAA puts up the money to put those teams up in local hotels etc. until their games on Sunday so they wouldn't have to travel. The money raised would more than pay for the hotel costs etc. just from ticket sales for those games

If I'm a basketball coach at a good football school who also has a good basketball team, I'm probably against it for obvious reasons. Your best players not getting out until a week or two before Christmas, when some of the big showcase events follow the break, might not be helping your kids unless they already have football rides.

I am talking about mirroring the Champions Classic that UK, Duke, Michigan State, and KU presently take part in. Not a tournament setting. Logistically it is too difficult to make happen otherwise. You could have a "little school" 2 game slate on Friday night and a "big school" 2 game slate on Saturday night.

 

That's pretty good, but isn't it pretty much what some schools like Boyle County and Lexington Catholic or Lexington Christian have tried to do some years?

 

If there is a showcase games this year, they'd probably make the playoffs seem less climatic because people would have wanted to see games like Highlands-Collins (since they already play Cov Cath), in 4A for example.

 

Also, I think if you are going to attract the crowds needed, you might have to be more about the players playing than the teams in them (i.e. a Conner so you get Barker)

 

If you were going to do it, all things considered, I guess I'd have tried to organize this one this year:

 

Papa John's Stadium:

Male v. Trinity (their game is moved to Week 1)

Conner v. Caldwell County (Barker and Sindelar squaring off)

DeSales/CAL v. Belfry/Mayfield (Louisville v. EKY/WKY power in a game of different classes)

 

If I'm doing it in the NKY area and can get Highlands to agree, then I put in a game between them and Simon Kenton that really means nothing as far as playoffs go but lots to the communities. If I'm Highlands, no way I want that game though. Everything to lose and nothing to gain, so why play it?

These are the kinda games I'm looking for.

There's always a lot of talk about who the best team in the state is, even after the finals. This year, I think most would agree that Bowling Green is the best team this year. While I don't know if it could ever be worked out due to how late in the year the season always finishes, but I think it would be awesome if all six state champions could play to determine who is truly the best in the state.

 

Is there any scenario that this could be worked out? Do you think every team that wins State would want to participate? Discuss.

Lets make it even better then. Best of the counties game. Build an allstar team from players from Boone County schools, build a team of Campbell county players and build a team of Kenton county players.

Let them play, give Boone the first round bye only because I said so lol

Most folks feel Highlands is the cream of the crop of NKy football, what a better way to prove it. Even if they lose, has no bearing on there 4a status, plus, all anyone's talked about this year is how SKenton needs to boost there schedule to better prepare them for the playoffs, well, that'd be hard to do if Highlands or CCath refused to play them. Outside of those 2, they pretty much play all the other better programs in the immediate area.

No way you can ask those kids to play two games in two days, exhibition or not.

Any postseason games after the Finals is just not a good idea plain and simple.

Win and it's because you are supposed to. Lose, especially two years in a row, and you might be looking for employment.

Problem with SK as most of NKY schools. They are way too inconsistent. Look at Ryle. Beat Highlands a couple of years ago, but probably wouldn't be much of a game this year. Yes SK was very good this year, but they haven't proven to be a top team year in and year out.

Haven't read the entire thread but most of you seem to be in the mode of wanting to reduce the number of classes from 6 to 3! I mean if your willing to have 1A play 2A for a championship game between the two classes then why not just have a larger 1a Class. Same thing for 2A and 3A and 5A and 6A. :idunno:
