So basically since none of those teams play in the SEC they have no claim to the title game. None of these teams can help it if their conference is up or down. Missouri played Murray State, Toledo, Indiana, and Arkansas State out of conference. Auburn played Washington State, Arkansas State, Western Carolina, and Florida Atlantic OOC. Yeah, Nevada, Bethune-Cookman, Idaho, and Florida is not a strong OOC slate for FSU, but which name out of that crop pops up as a team that you'd ever enter a year thinking was going to be good? Are they supposed to be clairvoyant and figure out that Florida was going to tank? Was there ever a prayer that any team from the SEC Championship Game OOC crop was going to do well?

 

Alabama's OOC slate was Virginia Tech (an ACC team), Colorado State, Georgia State, and Chattanooga. They played three teams that were ranked at the time they played, and after the next poll it is possible (albeit a slim shot, I think A&M holds on) that only LSU will be ranked. FSU's one good win (which you crapped on) will remain better than any Alabama had going by the next rankings (or today really), yet you'd have had no worries at all about Alabama in the title game because they have a "good schedule".

 

Clemson was a great win. You can try to be revisionist now and discount it, but the fact will remain that Clemson is at worst a top 15 team that has played like a top 10 team most of the year. They beat Georgia before injuries decimated them, and did it a week before Georgia beat South Carolina - who now completed the circle in beating Clemson. Clemson lost by 2 TDs on the road to South Carolina, a game they entered the 4th Quarter tied against. It was a loss, it happens. Most of these teams have black marks on them. South Carolina lost to Vandy for crying out loud yet I'm thinking you'd have no problem with calling the a top 10 team, nor would I.

Ohio State vs. Florida State...........only two unbeaten teams left. imo no other choice.

I don't have a dog fighting in the SEC or Big 10, but I will say that even with the SEC being somewhat down in comparison to previous years, it is still far better than any other conference; better enough that a one loss team from it should play in the BCS championship. With the national championship streak that it has, I wouldn't say that it lacks credibility.

 

I agree with points made about Florida State's schedule not being that great, but they have dominated EVERYONE they played. Even with that, I believe they still need to beat Duke, which I don't see as a problem, but who the hell knows.

 

Ohio State has an incredible win streak with Michigan State ahead. IMO, they really need to convincingly beat the Spartans to have a shot of being considered. They could greatly benefit from an FSU loss, which is a small probability. I also think this is a good time to think back to times when Boise State and TCU never got the respect from as many as they did with the better teams they had in the past. I know the conferences were weaker, but this is a very similar scenario.

 

Regardless of the turnout, I really wish the playoff was happening this year; it would have been useful to say in the least.

Or because they've won their last 24 games...? Most of the times wins count as wins unless your OSU on an SEC homer board, not you specifically Joker, your actually rational.

 

Thanks. For me, it's been more how OSU hasn't performed well in the biggest of their games like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Northwestern. If they'd beaten them much worse, then I'd feel differently, but looking at how they've played against the top competition in their conference, I think they suffer some losses if they played like that and had an SEC West schedule like Alabama or Auburn played.

 

One thing that hurts Ohio State that is somewhat beyond their control is how bad California has been this year.

Now let's break down your arguments.

 

Can't help they're from a bad conference: agreed however that has to be a consideration unless you think Boise State should also get in should they go undefeated.

 

OOC schedule: Again, one part of the decision. If you play in a strong conference you get some slack as it's the total picture taken into account.

 

Clemson win: It was a good win if you look at it by itself. However, if you look at what it takes to win week in and week out in a tough conference then it's diminished as it was their only big game this year.

 

Clemson win is better than any Bama win: disagree. LSU was a better win. Had they beaten AU and been in this debate than AU would have also been a better win.

 

The ONLY way you pick an undefeated Ohio State and/or FSU is you "think" they're really good and the best two teams. They could indeed be but we just haven't seen them tested enough to know.

 

Trust me. I'll watch it if it's those two. It will be a fun game to watch.
